/ The Iraqi Athletics Federation announced, on Sunday, the holding of the road (suburb) championship for Iraqi clubs in Nineveh Governorate next month.
The Federation’s Executive Director, Zaidoun Jawad, told Agency that the Federation decided in its last regular meeting held in Baghdad to hold the long-distance road championship in the city of Mosul in Nineveh Governorate for the period from 20-21 of next December.
He added that the tournament will be open to juniors, youth and advanced players (men, women), indicating that the Federation has informed all clubs in order to prepare to participate in the Iraq Club Championship next month.
He explained that the championship will be open, indicating that it will be held for all age groups and for both genders, which will participate in the race over different long distances, which will be determined according to the category that will participate in the competitions.
He pointed out that the road races scheduled in Mosul will be considered among the first round competitions of the 2024 season, explaining that there are two remaining rounds that will be held at successive intervals next year, the dates of which the Federation will determine at a later time.
It is noteworthy that the last road competitions were won by the Police Club first, the Army Club came second, and the Popular Mobilization Club came in third place.
