‘2024 Respect Run’ in Hanam on the 26th
The ‘2024 Respect Run’, co-hosted by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and the Dong-A Ilbo, will be held at Misagyeongjeong Park and nearby roads in Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do at 4 pm on the 26th.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs is carrying out the ‘Another National Representative’ campaign starting in 2022 to express gratitude to uniformed workers such as soldiers, police, firefighters, correctional officers, and coastguards. This means that the approximately 420,000 people wear the Taegeuk symbol on their uniforms, train constantly, and dedicate themselves to the people, resembling national team players.
The Respect Run, prepared as part of this campaign, also carries the meaning of expressing respect to uniformed workers. In this competition, which is divided into 5km and 10km courses, 5,175 people will run together to show that 51.75 million citizens support uniformed workers. Of the total participants, 1,119 are uniformed workers.
Korea Sports Promotion Foundation coach Hwang Young-jo, a marathon gold medalist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, will also participate in this competition and join in cheering on uniformed workers. Director Hwang is also a descendant of a man of national merit whose father, Hwang Gil-soo (who passed away in 2005), was a Vietnam War veteran.
The secretariat of this competition decided to donate part of the proceeds to ‘Everyone’s Veterans’ Dream.’ Everybody’s Veterans Dream is a donation platform created by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs so that all citizens can support independence activists, national meritorious people, uniformed workers, and their descendants.
