Current Form in the 2024 Season
With five races remaining in this thrilling 2024 season, the battles for both championships remain very much alive. The pecking order among the front-runners, as well as across the midfield, is ever-changing, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the campaign.
After not winning a race since the Spanish Grand Prix in June, Max Verstappen secured victory in the Sprint at Austin last time out, indicating that Red Bull is regaining its form after a challenging period that saw McLaren overtake them in the constructors’ standings.
However, it was Ferrari that had the advantage come Sunday’s Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc surged into P1 at the first corner and went on to lead a dominant one-two alongside teammate Carlos Sainz. This result has brings Scuderia Ferrari closer to the fight at the top of the standings, narrowing the gap to Red Bull to just eight points while McLaren is 48 points ahead.
Leclerc has stated that Ferrari is “targeting the title” following his triumph at the Circuit of The Americas. Can the team maintain this momentum heading into Mexico, where Leclerc claimed pole position last year and finished on the podium?
Lando Norris will be looking for a better performance at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. While his weekend in Austin wasn’t disastrous, the Briton and his team were left disappointed by a five-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage during a late-race battle with Verstappen, which dropped him down to P4.
It was a challenging outing for Mercedes at the United States Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton spinning out early and George Russell putting in a recovery drive to finish sixth after starting from the pit lane. The squad, now firmly in fourth place in the constructors’ standings, is aiming for greater consistency with their W15, which has shown fluctuations in performance.
In the midfield battle, Haas has overtaken RB for sixth place but holds this position by just two points. Meanwhile, Williams hopes to keep Alpine at bay in the fight for eighth place.
With so much still to be decided, every upcoming race weekend could prove crucial.
