Adviser on Labor and Employment Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has warned that the government will be on the ‘highest level’ to break market syndicates.
He said that the government will launch ‘Alternative Agriculture Market’ to break market syndicates.
He said these things at the opening ceremony of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh-TCB (50 places in Dhaka city) selling products through mobile trucks at Begunbari Deepikar Mor area of Dhaka on Thursday (October 24).
At that time, the advisor said, the price increases due to syndicates and middlemen. For this reason, we are working with priority in all possible ways to break the syndicate in the long term. Government task force is working from big city to local level.
Asif Mahmud said, it is important to reduce the middlemen from producers or farmers to consumers. In this case, the private companies who are doing social business from entrepreneurs to deliver products to customers, they will also get maximum support from us.
As part of a long-term plan to curb the rise in commodity prices, the government is considering opening alternative agricultural markets, where farmers can directly deliver their produce to the market and consumers can buy, he said.
From Thursday, TCB will conduct this sale through mobile trucks at 50 locations in Dhaka and 20 locations in Chittagong.
Apart from family card holders, people without cards can also buy TCB products from open trucks from today.
According to a notification of TCB, TCB products are being sold at affordable prices among one crore beneficiary card-holding families of low income under the overall guidance of the Ministry of Commerce. From now on apart from them, arrangements have been made to sell TCB products oil, pulses and rice to the general consumer at subsidized prices.
These products will be sold in 50 trucks in Dhaka city and 20 in Chittagong city, the circular said, consumers can stand in line in front of the truck at designated points of TCB and buy fair price products (5 kg rice, 2 kg lentils, 2 liters soybeans for Tk 470).
This program will start from 24th October and will continue till 30th November. However, if inflation does not reach a tolerable level, the activity may be extended later, the notification also highlighted.
