Cordero had to explain the use of a Carabineros institutional plane by Monsalve to travel to the Biobío Region to confess the complaint against him to his family, before presenting his resignation.
Luis Cordero, new Undersecretary of the Interior, had words for the investigation facing his predecessor, Manuel Monsalve, accused of rape by an advisor.
Along with this, Cordero had to explain the use of a Carabineros institutional plane by Monsalve to travel to the Biobío Region to confess the complaint against him to his family, before presenting his resignation.
“The authority exercised by the Undersecretary of the Interior has protection and escort due to the function it performs. Undersecretary Monsalve was on duty on Wednesday, therefore the use of transportation is that to which he is linked to his function. The transfer he made to Concepción was made in an institutional vehicle and his return was also made by institutional means, formally required by the Undersecretariat of the Interior,” he explained.
Given this situation, Undersecretary Luis Cordero made it clear that “Carabineros in relation to this transfer strictly followed the law because it corresponds to a higher authority that is in the performance of its functions.”
However, he pointed out that this situation is being investigated by the administrative summary carried out by the Interior portfolio.
In addition, he referred to the decision of the director of the PDI, Eduardo Cerna, to detail to Minister Carolina Tohá the investigation that Manuel Monsalve is facing.
“I have no doubt since I assumed this position that Director Cerna’s actions have been fully in line with the law,” stated Luis Cordero, who added that met with him this Friday.
