Azerbaijan in energy supply to Europe“/>
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) increases the strategic importance of energy exports from Azerbaijan to Europe.
As Day.Az reports, this is stated in an article in the French online publication La Gazette du Caucase.
The authors note that the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), of which TAP is part, represents a vital alternative for Europe that provides energy diversification.
“This pipeline has strengthened Azerbaijan’s role as a key geopolitical player and a reliable energy partner. TAP not only maintains its operational success, but is also poised for significant expansion, planning to increase its capacity by 1.2 billion cubic meters per year by 2026. This expansion is necessary for meeting Europe’s growing demand and supporting the continent’s clean energy transition, TAP will undoubtedly continue to strengthen regional stability and sustainable development in the coming years, enhancing the strategic importance of Azerbaijan’s energy exports in a multipolar world.
The authors emphasize that in just four years, TAP supplied 40 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe, which was a major achievement for the SGC and reinforced the importance of diversified energy routes.
“The role of TAP goes beyond the simple supply of gas; it has become a geopolitical instrument that strengthens Azerbaijan’s position within the Middle Corridor – the most important trade and route between Europe and Asia. The importance of TAP correlates with the growing relevance of the Middle Corridor as an alternative route in the context of European efforts to reduce its depending on Russian gas. The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, links Central Asia, the South Caucasus and Europe. TAP plays a key role in this corridor, facilitating the flow of energy from Azerbaijan, a country strategically located at the center of this route,” noted in the article.
