Five reasons behind Congress’ fall in Uttarakhand

by time news

The Congress has been able to properly deal with infighting within the party and election promises. But the results show that the image of national politics is also reflected in state politics

New Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is moving towards continuity of government in Uttarakhand. The BJP has a clear majority in 48 of the 70 constituencies. The Congress is also leading in 18 seats. For the first time in the history of the state, a one-party rule is being achieved.

Five factors that led to the defeat of Congress

  1. The Congress had promised in its manifesto that it would keep the price of LPG cylinders below Rs 500 and provide jobs, financial assistance to five lakh families, better health care and 40 per cent reservation for women in government jobs. But the election results indicate that the people have made national security and military welfare a priority.
  2. The Congress has been able to properly deal with infighting within the party and election promises. But the image of national politics seems to have been reflected in state politics as well.
  3. He came to the state for the BJP as a star campaigner in the elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the state for three days. Besides, Home Minister Amit Shah and National President J.S. P. Nadda, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were active in the election rallies. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, on the other hand, held only a handful of rallies.
  4. The BJP has accused the Harish Rawat-led Congress government of politicizing the protest. Amit Shah had leveled some allegations against the Congress government at an election rally last year. Shah said he had allowed the closure of highways for prayers during the Congress and promised to start a Muslim university in the state. The BJP seems to have won the vote by pointing out these issues.
  5. For the BJP to emerge as a party that takes a stand accordingly in a state where the presence of the Indian Army and religious tourism are a priority.
