The president of the Consumer Ombudsman‘s Office, Ricardo Salazar, stated that the prices of fruits and vegetables sold in EL Salvador are “far below the price levels in Central America.”
In that sense, the official explained that the Agro Markets have positively impacted the reduction in prices of food products by eliminating intermediaries in the marketing of vegetables and fruits.
“This is a strategy that today allows us to bring precisely those points where a series of fruits and vegetables are grown to these supply centers,” Salazar signed about the Agro Markets, which currently have 50 points.
He also indicated that the institution has carried out, to date, more than 45 thousand verifications nationwide throughout the food supply chain to protect the pockets of Salvadorans.
If unjustified increases are found in the prices of essential products, the sanctioning process is carried out. “The Consumer Protection Law establishes as an abusive practice the existence of unjustified price increases in food and other essential products; this is where we configure our actions,” said the president of the Consumer Ombudsman’s Office.
