“If I had to do it again, I would do it again.” The YouTuber Squeezie returned, this Sunday, in an interview with Élise Lucet, to the open letter he wrote last July in view of the legislative elections. He explained his disagreement with the project supported by the National Rally, described as a party “with an extreme ideology that supports hatred and discrimination”.
At the microphone of “Derush”, the investigative journalist’s new program broadcast on YouTube, the YouTuber with around twenty million subscribers explained the reasons for his position. “What pushed me to do it was seeing that social networks and in particular TikTok were being exploited to perfection by this far right”, he specified, briefly denying the rumors of financing by a particular party, which were hinted at by the era by Jordan Bardella himself.
“It took me a while to write this post”
But this decision proved difficult to make. “It took me a while to write this post, because the topic is sensitive and I didn’t want to turn people on, especially I didn’t want to appear moralistic or haughty or judge people just because they have a different opinion”, more details Lucas Hauchard, his real name, who explains that he wanted to play the role of the “big brother” who helps an often poorly informed generation, while Jordan Bardella’s party communicated a lot through social networks, in particular TikTok.
In any case, Squeezie says he is “very happy to have done it”. “I’m very happy I did it,” he says anyway. “With the flu I have I couldn’t say anything about what is happening, which I consider very serious. I would have felt very bad. (…) I had this need to do it and I didn’t do it (wanted) I have no regrets,” he concluded.
