The High Electoral Commission Board announced the date of the municipal council elections (first group) for the year 2024, which will be on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

This announcement came in an official statement issued by the Council, in which it also confirmed that the electoral propaganda campaigns for the candidates will begin with the date of issuance of the decision to approve the final list of candidates until Friday, November 15, 2024, which is the day of “electoral silence.”

The statement stated that the Commission will issue a decision regarding approving the final list of candidates and setting the polling day for the municipal council elections.

The Council stressed the need to adhere to the executive regulations attached to Resolution No. (43) of 2023 for municipal council elections with regard to presenting, announcing and promoting their electoral programs, and to stop all activities that are classified as electoral propaganda 24 hours before polling day.

The Council also called on the organizations that were accredited to monitor the elections to be prepared to follow up and monitor the progress of the voting process on the specified date, and to adhere to the monitoring methodology based on neutrality and integrity.

The statement stressed the necessity of making this process a success through cooperation between all state agencies, stressing the desire of Libyans to advance their state through the proper establishment of their municipal councils and electing those they deem appropriate to carry this responsibility.

The Council indicated that this is its first experience in implementing elections at this level, stressing the Commission’s determination to move forward with holding municipal council elections (the second group in 2025), which it is decided to begin implementing at the beginning of next year.

The first group includes 58 municipal councils distributed across various regions of the country (17 municipalities in the southern region, 29 in the western region, and 12 municipalities in the eastern region).
