The Solidarity Organization for Human Rights called on the Public Prosecutor’s Office to investigate the attack on a peaceful demonstration using bullets in the city of Yafran last Thursday, and to hold those responsible accountable.
In a statement, the organization also called for an investigation into the kidnapping of a number of city residents last Friday, and to work for their immediate release.
The organization criticized what it called “the chaos of ill-considered decisions” issued by governments, including merging and dissolving military and security entities, and strengthening municipalities and parties over others, without taking into account the backgrounds and consequences of those policies, noting that they contribute to aggravating the situation and threatening security and social peace, according to the statement.
The organization also criticized the decision of the Minister of the Interior in charge, in the National Unity Government, to include the security directorates of a group of cities (Jado, Zintan, Yafran, and Batin al-Jabal) and merge them under the name of the “Central Mountain” Security Directorate, headquartered in the city of Rayina, which was rejected by several cities. One of them is Yafran.
The organization stressed the need for gradual progression and the formulation of real, realistic and responsible policies. To unify the military and security institutions, pointing out that they still suffer today from tribal orientation, and the control of individuals and warlords over them, as she described it.
The Solidarity Organization indicated that it is observing with concern and dismay the delay and procrastination in implementing the promises of governments and the Ministries of Interior and Defense to remove military entities and the headquarters of armed groups from residential areas.
The organization added that the people and residents in all regions of Libya have been exposed to intimidation and instability for years, due to the increase in official and unofficial military headquarters that practice intimidation and blackmail.
The people of Yafran went out in a peaceful demonstration in front of the headquarters of one of the brigades affiliated with the Western Military District last Thursday, in protest against the presence of armed formations in the city.
