Máté Vincze stated at the round table discussion entitled The Stakes of the American Presidential Election, organized within the framework of the series entitled The Challenge of Our Age, that the result of the election, the outcome of the battle of values, will have an impact on Hungary as well. It will also be decided whether Hungary will get an opportunity and an ally or, with the victory of globalism, extra pressure will be placed on Hungary, he said.
The politician also touched on the fact that the economy is an important stake in the American presidential election. According to his assessment, the first generation that has grown up in the United States feels that it is working for nothing, yet it does not prosper. And this is contrary to the American dream, he noted.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump promises to make the United States great again, to build protectionist American industry, and to create new jobs, he said. He added that people have a feeling that this process started during the first Trump presidency.
Trump promises that the strong, self-confident United States will live again, the American dream, and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris tells voters that although she has been vice president, she will do things differently as president in the future, the deputy secretary of state summed up the campaign.
Hungary will have to find its place in this coordinate system after the November 5 presidential election, he emphasized.
Márton Ugrósdy, Deputy State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, expressed his hope at the round table discussion that Hungary will be able to establish cooperation with the new American president based on mutual respect. In his opinion, Trump’s victory would shake Europe and lead the continent to self-examination of where it is going and what it wants to achieve.
Magor Ernyei, the international director of the Center for Fundamental Rights, pointed out that during the first Trump administration, the United States did not negotiate with the European Union, but with the individual member states, providing them with opportunities and cooperation. On the other hand, during the democratic administration, the emphasis was on political messaging, he pointed out. Relations based on respect must be restored, he said.
