Al-Bariki pointed out to Sputnik that “the locusts appeared in Sebha, Brak Al-Shati, Wadi Al-Bawanis, Bani Walid, and Tarhuna, where the largest infections were in the areas of Traghen and Tazerbu.”
He stressed that “the National Locust Control Committee sent teams equipped with spraying equipment, desert vehicles, and pesticides to combat the pest.”
He added: “Given the density of palm trees and the presence of pivot irrigation circles, spraying and control operations face some difficulties.”
Hussein Al-Bariki stressed that “the Libyan authorities are working to provide the needs of the field work teams deployed in the affected areas,” adding: “These teams will continue their efforts to eliminate this scourge or reduce its risks.”
