Young talent on the island continue to take giant steps toward their goal, and this time, it was the turn of 17-year-old Cuban prospect Adriano Marrero.
According to a report by sports journalist, Francys Romero, the boy will sign his signature with the Houston Astros organization once the next international signing period opens, scheduled for January 2025.
“Cuban pitcher Adriano Marrero (17) will sign with the Houston Astros when the next international period begins in January 2025, according to several sources,” reads his publication.
Originally from the province of Cienfuegos, the Cuban prospect has a fastball that ranges between 90 and 93 miles per hour, and a “spin rate top of 3050,” according to the data provided by Romero.
It turned out that the sidereal organization will pay the player a bonus of around $400,000.
Likewise, Romero specified that the boy is currently training with the Yuan Pino Academy, recognized in this sporting field.
That being said, Marrero has no choice but to wait for the long-awaited day to make his bond with Houston official and, not only that, but also take one more step towards the Major Leagues, the dream of all boys his age.

Interview Between Time.news Editor and Sports Expert on the Rise of Young Cuban Baseball Talent
Time.news Editor (T.N.E.): Welcome to our special feature on rising sports stars. Today, we have with us Francys Romero, a renowned sports journalist who has been closely following the journey of young baseball talent from Cuba. Recently, you reported on a promising prospect, 17-year-old Adriano Marrero. Can you give us a brief overview of who he is and why he’s gaining so much attention?
Francys Romero (F.R.): Thank you for having me! Adriano Marrero is a remarkable young pitcher from Cienfuegos, Cuba. At just 17 years old, he has already drawn interest from major league teams, thanks to his impressive fastball that ranges between 90 and 93 miles per hour and a spin rate that tops 3050. His talent is undeniable, and it’s no surprise that the Houston Astros are eager to sign him once the next international signing period opens in January 2025.
T.N.E.: It’s exciting to see the next generation of players making strides toward successful careers in Major League Baseball. What can you tell us about the circumstances that have led young athletes like Marrero to seek opportunities abroad?
F.R.: The situation in Cuba plays a significant role in this phenomenon. Many young athletes, including Marrero, aspire for a better future beyond the constraints of the Castro regime. The limited opportunities and resources available for sports development in Cuba can stifle their dreams, prompting them to reach out to foreign organizations that can provide the necessary support and exposure. For them, signing with a team like the Astros is a pivotal step toward achieving their dreams of playing in the Major Leagues.
T.N.E.: It must be a long and arduous journey for these young talents. How is Marrero preparing for his future with the Astros?
F.R.: Currently, he is training at the Yuan Pino Academy, which is well-respected in the realm of baseball training. His commitment to honing his skills is crucial, especially as he prepares to transition into a professional environment. While he has officially committed to the Astros, the waiting period until 2025 will require him to remain focused and continue developing his game.
T.N.E.: There’s a lot of anticipation around his signing. What impact do you think a bonus of around $400,000 will have on his life and career?
F.R.: A signing bonus like that can be life-changing for someone like Marrero. It not only provides financial support for him and his family but also allows him to invest in further training and development. This could catapult his career forward, enabling him to focus solely on baseball without the financial pressures that many young athletes face.
T.N.E.: As we discuss Marrero’s talents and potential, imagine the dreams of many other budding athletes in Cuba who share a similar path. What message do you think Adriano’s success sends to them?
