– I am humble and grateful for this incredible exciting opportunity. This is simply the dream job, and I am extremely looking forward to getting started, says Strøm in a press release from NRK.
The person from Bergen is known as a drummer in bands such as Datarock and Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band. He himself participated in the music competition with the former in 2013.
– I know the MGP circus very well both from the inside and outside. Now I look forward to combining my love for MGP, my network in Music Norway, and my drive and commitment to Norwegian music with the country’s biggest music competition.
Strøm takes over from Stig Karlsen, who has held the role for ten years. He had both the role of music manager and delegation leader for the Norwegian contribution to Eurovision. But now this role will be split in two.
The current project manager of MGP, Mads Tørklep, will take over the job as delegation leader.
– I look forward to doing this job together with the music industry’s very nicest guy. Tarjei has fantastic insight into the environment and a good mood that rubs off on the entire project. Together we will take MGP to new heights, says Tørklep.

Interview Between Time.news Editor and Music Expert Strøm
Time.news Editor: Welcome, Strøm! Thank you for joining us today. Congratulations on landing your dream job with the Melodi Grand Prix (MGP)! What does this role mean for you personally and professionally?
Strøm: Thank you! I’m incredibly humbled and grateful for this opportunity. It feels surreal to be stepping into this role, especially considering the passion I have for MGP and Norwegian music. This really combines my love for the competition with my background in the music industry, and I can’t wait to get started!
Time.news Editor: You’ve been involved in the music scene as a drummer with notable bands like Datarock and Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band. How does your experience as a musician shape your approach to leading MGP?
Strøm: My background gives me a unique perspective on what artists experience during competitions. I’ve been on that side of things, and I understand the pressures and excitement of it all. I plan to leverage my network and experience to not only support the artists but also to elevate the competition itself. Understanding both sides of the MGP circus will help me create an environment that fosters creativity and showcases our incredible talent.
Time.news Editor: Speaking of the MGP circus, you mentioned your familiarity with the competition. What previous experiences do you think will help you in this new position?
Strøm: Having participated in the competition with Datarock in 2013, I truly understand the dynamics and stakes involved. I know what it means to be on stage, as well as the importance of audience connection and interpretation. Now, I get to work more strategically, using my passion for MGP and my connections in the industry to guide the artists and the project as a whole.
Time.news Editor: You’re taking over from Stig Karlsen, who held the position for a decade. What changes or innovations do you hope to bring to MGP?
Strøm: Stig did a phenomenal job, and I’m grateful for the foundation he built. My goal is to continue that momentum and possibly introduce new elements that will enhance the viewing experience. I want to embrace collaboration with artists and songwriters, focusing on innovative shows and maybe even integrating more modern formats that appeal to newer audiences while still honoring our traditions.
Time.news Editor: The role of the delegation leader is now separate from the music manager. Mads Tørklep will be taking over that position. How do you plan to collaborate with him and other industry professionals to ensure the success of MGP?
Strøm: I’m excited to work alongside Mads. He has a fantastic understanding of the music industry and a positive energy that’s contagious. Together, we share the vision of taking MGP to new heights. Our collaboration will focus on strategic direction, while ensuring that the artists feel supported and empowered. It’s going to be a team effort, with everyone’s input valued highly.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like you have a clear vision! What message do you have for the artists who will be participating in MGP under your leadership?
Strøm: I want them to know that this is a platform for their voices and creativity. We’re here to support them fully, and I encourage them to bring their authentic selves to the stage. MGP is about showcasing the best of Norwegian music, and I can’t wait to be a part of that journey with them.
Time.news Editor: Thank you, Strøm, for sharing your insights and enthusiasm! We’re looking forward to seeing the direction you’ll take MGP in the coming years.
Strøm: Thank you! I’m excited about the journey ahead and can’t wait for everyone to experience what we have planned for MGP!
