Several specialized media have already been able to play the new Bethesda and Xbox title.
As you have already seen, several media outlets have published theirs first impressions of Indiana Jones and the Great Circlethe next game from MachineGames and Bethesda. We leave you what the different media said, starting with IGN:
“I don’t know if executive producer Todd Howard, who proposed this idea to Lucasfilm many years ago, had MachineGames in mind when it came to him. But the pairing works beautifully and I can’t wait for the rest of Indy’s latest adventure.”
GameSpot seemed pretty excited too:
“Indiana Jones and the Great Circle seems like an amalgam of many genres, but manages to find the right balance between them. Everything is designed to honor the spirit of Indiana Jones, professor, archaeologist and adventurer. While 90 minutes wasn’t enough time to enjoy everything the game has to offer, it gave me a taste of a type of puzzle adventure game rarely seen in the AAA world. “It’s shaping up to be an impressive showcase of MachineGames’ toolset and understanding of how to shape game design around the protagonist and story.”
Our colleagues at Eurogamer They think the game hits the mark with its “sense of adventure”:
“It’s a wonderful love letter to Indiana Jones, just as Rogue City was to Robocop, and anyone who considers themselves a fan of the film trilogy (there were definitely only three films, I don’t know what you’re talking about) should have it on their radar.”
PC Mag also thinks it has a lot of promise:
“I only played Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for a little over two hours. So I don’t know yet how the story will develop and whether it will correspond to the first Indy films. But despite some things that didn’t convince me too much, so far I’ve liked what I’ve seen. I just hope MachineGames can improve some of the combat and offer enough excitement and solid gameplay throughout the entire experience, which promises to take place in exotic locations around the world.”
And GamesRadar found it true to Indy’s character:
“I left the adventure feeling like this was the closest thing to being in an Indiana Jones movie. While it involves a lot more stealth than I expected, it suits the type of character Indy is (he’s no bullet-spitting Nathan Drake) and I found it very satisfying to take out enemies and traverse the environment without being seen. So far I’ve only had a taste of what’s in store, but I can’t wait to experience the bigger picture of MachineGames’ version of this beloved character.”
The next Indiana Jones adventure is coming to Xbox and PC on December 9th, and yes, it’s also coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one.

Interview between Time.news Editor and Game Development Expert
Time.news Editor: Welcome, everyone! Today, we’re thrilled to have with us Dr. Mia Reynolds, a renowned game development expert and a fan of adventure titles. We’re here to discuss the highly anticipated release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda. Thanks for joining us, Dr. Reynolds!
Dr. Mia Reynolds: Thank you for having me! It’s exciting to be here, especially discussing a title tied to such an iconic franchise.
Time.news Editor: Absolutely! So, several major gaming publications have recently shared their first impressions of the game. What was your overall sentiment after reading these reviews?
Dr. Mia Reynolds: I was quite intrigued! The feedback from outlets like IGN and GameSpot really highlighted the careful balance MachineGames appears to be striking among various genres. They seem to have done justice to Indiana Jones’ spirit—mixing puzzle-solving with action and adventure, which is critical for players looking for an immersive experience.
Time.news Editor: IGN’s praise for the pairing of Todd Howard’s vision with MachineGames also caught my eye. What do you think makes this collaboration work so well?
Dr. Mia Reynolds: Todd Howard has a fantastic track record with storytelling in games. His vision, when combined with MachineGames’ expertise in crafting atmosphere and adventure, creates a perfect storm for a meaningful gaming experience. MachineGames’ previous titles, like Wolfenstein, demonstrate their ability to weave intricate narratives with strong character development. This synergy could make Indiana Jones and the Great Circle not just a game but a new chapter in the Indiana Jones saga.
Time.news Editor: GameSpot’s review mentioned that the game seems to be an “amalgam of many genres.” What kind of genres do you think are being fused in this title?
Dr. Mia Reynolds: From what I’ve gathered, it appears to blend elements of puzzle games, action-adventure, and even a bit of role-playing mechanics. The emphasis on puzzles and exploration is reminiscent of classic adventure games, while the action sequences and cinematic presentation might appeal to modern gamers who appreciate high-octane gameplay. This hybrid approach can potentially attract a wider audience.
Time.news Editor: Eurogamer referred to the game as a “love letter” to Indiana Jones. How important is nostalgia in game development, especially for franchises like this?
Dr. Mia Reynolds: Nostalgia plays a pivotal role in engaging both new players and longtime fans. A game that respects its roots while offering fresh experiences can create a deep emotional connection with players. For someone who grew up with Indiana Jones, a game that captures that adventure and sentiment can be incredibly fulfilling—not just as entertainment, but as a tribute to a beloved character and story.
Time.news Editor: PC Mag voiced some concerns over the combat mechanics and hoped for improvement throughout the experience. What makes combat mechanics crucial in a game like this?
Dr. Mia Reynolds: Combat mechanics are vital as they can significantly affect the gameplay experience. In a game like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, where exploration and puzzle-solving are key, the combat needs to feel seamless and engaging without overshadowing those elements. If players feel frustrated with combat, it could detract from the overall enjoyment of the adventure. Therefore, it’ll be interesting to see how MachineGames addresses this feedback—striking that balance is crucial.
Time.news Editor: given the exotic locations highlighted in the previews, how do you think the setting will impact gameplay and player engagement?
Dr. Mia Reynolds: The right setting enhances the narrative and gameplay tenfold. Exotic locations allow for unique puzzles and challenges that reflect the culture and history of the area, making exploration exciting and enriching. It gives players a sense of discovery and adventure, which is at the heart of the Indiana Jones franchise. If they utilize these settings effectively, it could elevate the game to new heights, immersing players in a world full of surprises and adventure.
Time.news Editor: Thank you, Dr. Reynolds, for your insights! It will be fascinating to see how Indiana Jones and the Great Circle evolves and whether it meets the high expectations set by fans and critics alike.
Dr. Mia Reynolds: Thank you for having me! I’m equally excited to see how this journey unfolds. Here’s to great adventures ahead!
