Before the election for Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Kalimantan, the pair of candidates Abdul Razak – Sri Suwanto, known as ASRI and ranked at number 4, are strengthening their position as the main candidates more.
Support for this couple comes from different aspects of society, from young volunteers, workers, teaching staff, cultural people, to regional figures, who hope that ASRI can bring change to Central Kalimantan.
Political and cultural observer, Dr. Sulhan stated that the amount of support for the ASRI was normal considering the eligibility of this pair. Additionally, ASRI couples have a clean track record and are considered competent, both intellectually and in leadership style.
“Run Number 4 is a candidate for Governor and Deputy Governor that Central Kalimantan really needs at this time. Data on the results of the highest electability of the ASRI pair in several recent polls show that people’s political awareness is beginning getting high,” said Dr Sulhan, Wednesday (30/10).
He added that the Central Kalimantan gubernatorial election this time was very tight, with all the candidate pairs making the most of their efforts. “ASRI provides a fresh new alternative among the candidates, most of whom are former regional officials, who attract public attention,” said Dr. Sulhan once conducted a scientific study (Lemhanas) on Increasing the Ban on Money Politics in Regional Elections to Elect Regional Leaders with Integrity.
In its vision and mission, the ASRI couple offers several priority programs that focus on the main needs of the people of Central Kalimantan. This program includes alleviating poverty, creating jobs, improving the quality of education and health, as well as developing the MSME sector, the creative industries, and improving infrastructure.
Abdul Razak said that these programs aim to accelerate progress in Central Kalimantan and were presented at the first public debate, on October 14, 2024.
Sri Suwanto, Deputy Governor candidate from the ASRI pair, also expressed his gratitude for the growing support. During his presence at the filming of the short film on an educational theme titled ‘Sedetik Cahaya’, Sri emphasized that this public support would be maintained and would be sincerely appreciated.
“Thank you very much for the solid support for ASRI from all parties which is now becoming more widespread. “Of course, the high trust placed on our shoulders by the people of Central Kalimantan will be addressed wholeheartedly and will be a priority for our first 100-day agenda,” said Sri Suwanto.
Sri Suwanto’s decision to resign from his position as Commander of the Kalimantan Central Forestry Service to run for the general election received a positive response from the public. This decision is considered to be a form of high commitment in fulfilling the mandate given to him.
The ASRI pair supported by Golongan Karya Party (Golkar), Perindo Party, Ummat Party, Labor Party and Indonesian People’s Wave Party (Gelora) also won support from young voters and groups of average voters who had not made a choice before. The growing demand for ASRI is the main force to attract the attention of these groups.
Four pairs of candidates will compete in the Central Kalimantan regional elections scheduled for 27 November 2024. Apart from Abdul Razak – Sri Suwanto, there are Nadalsyah (Koyem) – Supian Hadi (SHD), Agustiar Sabran – Edy Pratowo, and Willy Midel Yoseph – Habib Ismail . It is hoped that this intense competition will be able to bring positive changes to Central Kalimantan, in accordance with the wishes of the community. (N-2)

Interview: Time.news Editor Meets Dr. Sulhan, Political and Cultural Observer on the Central Kalimantan Gubernatorial Election
Time.news Editor: Good afternoon, Dr. Sulhan. Thank you for joining us today to discuss the upcoming gubernatorial election in Central Kalimantan. The ASRI pair—Abdul Razak and Sri Suwanto—seems to be gaining considerable momentum. What do you think is fueling their surge in support?
Dr. Sulhan: Good afternoon! It’s a pleasure to be here. The support for ASRI can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, their clean track record stands out in a political landscape often marred by corruption. Voters are looking for candidates who embody integrity and competence, and ASRI fits that description well.
Time.news Editor: That’s an interesting point. You mentioned that they are viewed as competent in both intellect and leadership. How important are these qualities for voters in Central Kalimantan?
Dr. Sulhan: Extremely important. The electorate is becoming more politically aware and informed. They’re no longer merely swayed by popularity or party affiliation; they are critically evaluating candidates based on their capabilities and proposed policies. ASRI’s campaign targets pressing issues like poverty alleviation, job creation, and improving education and health care—all of which resonate deeply with the people’s needs.
Time.news Editor: Right. Speaking of their campaign, I understand they recently shared their vision during a public debate. Can you tell us more about their proposed programs?
Dr. Sulhan: Yes, their programs focus on key areas such as developing the MSME sector, enhancing creative industries, and infrastructure development. These are pivotal for speeding up economic growth in Central Kalimantan and are likely to appeal to a broad spectrum of voters, from young entrepreneurs to educators and health workers.
Time.news Editor: The election is reportedly very competitive. What makes ASRI distinctive compared to their opponents?
Dr. Sulhan: ASRI presents a refreshing alternative. Many candidates this election are former regional officials, which can sometimes lead to a sense of nostalgia rather than progress. ASRI’s approach represents a break from the status quo and seeks to engage younger demographics, who are increasingly becoming politically active.
Time.news Editor: With such a crowded field, how do you perceive ASRI’s electability?
Dr. Sulhan: Recent polls indicate that their electability is rising, and I believe that reflects an awakening political consciousness among voters. The fact that they are attracting support from diverse societal groups—from young volunteers to cultural figures—demonstrates a broad appeal built on shared hopes for meaningful change.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like they are making a significant impact. Sri Suwanto, the Deputy Governor candidate, expressed gratitude for the support at a recent event. How crucial is public support for their campaign strategy?
Dr. Sulhan: Public support is vital; it not only solidifies their position but also fuels their campaign momentum. When candidates feel that their message resonates with the people, it inspires confidence and strengthens their resolve to pursue their proposed initiatives. ASRI’s outreach efforts to engage with constituents are strategic in building that rapport.
Time.news Editor: Definitely. ASRI seems to embody a hopeful message for many. As we approach the election, what advice would you give to voters in Central Kalimantan?
Dr. Sulhan: I would advise voters to critically evaluate all candidates, their backgrounds, and their plans for the future. They should consider not only who they trust but also whom they believe can effect real, tangible change in their communities. It’s crucial for voters to make informed choices that align with their needs and aspirations.
Time.news Editor: Wise words, Dr. Sulhan. Thank you for your insights today! It seems Central Kalimantan is at a pivotal moment, and the choices made in the upcoming election could have significant consequences.
Dr. Sulhan: Thank you for having me! I believe it’s an exciting time for the region, and I encourage everyone to participate actively in the democratic process.
