No electricity for weeks; Radiation hazard at Chernobyl nuclear plant; Atomic Energy Agency with warning

by time news

Kyiv | The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned of a possible nuclear leak at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine. The agency said staff at the plant were in a critical condition.

The nuclear leak was reported after the Russian army seized the plant, which had been shut down during the Soviet era. The loss of power to the plant during the Russian attack has raised fears of a possible leak. With this, the security system to prevent leakage has been stopped. Power has not yet been restored.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Energy claimed that a team of experts from Belarus had arrived and fixed the problem.

Three weeks after the Russian-occupied occupation of Ukraine, the suffering has intensified. Electricity and telephone connections in key areas, including Mario Poly, have been down for days. Hundreds of people have sought refuge at a metro station in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv to escape missile attacks.
