From November 1, the night current is implemented, as well as the corresponding tariff for the winter season 2024-2025.
The night tariff
DEDDIE reminds customers who apply a domestic tariff with a time charge (reduced night time) that this year, as every year, from November 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025, split hours will apply, as follows:
- 02:00-08:00 and 15:00-17:00, for customers connected to the Mainland Network and its interconnected islands.
- 02:00-08:00 and 15:30-17:30, for customers of non-interconnected islands.
Consumers who wish to obtain more information on this matter can obtain information from their Provider.
For customers on a residential tariff with a time charge (reduced night) continuous hours, the current hours of 23:00 to 07:00 apply.
It is noted that the continuous hours (23:00 to 07:00 throughout the year) no longer apply to new consumers and only apply to existing consumers.
Consumers on the continuous schedule can switch to the split schedule if they wish, but cannot revert to the continuous schedule.

Title: Understanding the New Night Tariff Changes with Expert Insights
Time.news Editor (TNE): Thank you for joining us today. We have with us Dr. Maria Papadopoulos, a leading energy policy expert, to discuss the upcoming implementation of the night current tariff that starts on November 1, 2024. Dr. Papadopoulos, can you break down what the new night tariff entails for consumers?
Dr. Maria Papadopoulos (MPP): Thank you for having me. The new night tariff is designed to encourage energy consumption during off-peak hours, which can stabilize the energy grid and potentially lower costs for consumers. From November 1, 2024, through April 30, 2025, the split hours will apply. Consumers connected to the Mainland Network can take advantage of lower rates from 02:00 to 08:00 and 15:00 to 17:00. For those on non-interconnected islands, the off-peak hours are slightly adjusted to 02:00 to 08:00 and 15:30 to 17:30.
TNE: That’s great information. Can you explain what to expect for consumers who are currently on a residential tariff with a continuous night charge?
MPP: Certainly. For existing consumers on the continuous tariff, the designated hours remain between 23:00 and 07:00 throughout the year. However, it’s important to note that this option will no longer be available to new consumers. They can choose the split hours instead. While existing consumers have the option to switch to the split schedule, they cannot revert back to the continuous schedule, making future planning crucial for them.
TNE: This change has significant implications for energy consumers. What advice do you have for those who might be considering switching to the split schedule?
MPP: It is essential for consumers to evaluate their energy usage habits before making a switch. If your household uses most of its power during the day, the split tariff could yield savings. However, if your habits lean towards nighttime energy use, sticking with the continuous schedule may be beneficial until the new tariffs are fully understood. Consulting with energy providers for personalized insights can also be very helpful.
TNE: That’s valuable advice, Dr. Papadopoulos. What broader implications do these tariff changes have on the energy market and consumer behavior?
MPP: The introduction of time-based tariffs incentivizes consumers to shift their energy consumption patterns. This can lead to a more balanced load on the grid, which is crucial for energy efficiency and sustainability. As more households become conscious of peak versus off-peak hours, we may see a shift toward more adaptable energy consumption, potentially lowering costs and reducing strain on energy resources during busy hours.
TNE: Thank you for those insights. For consumers seeking additional information, where can they turn?
MPP: Consumers should reach out directly to their energy providers for tailored information on how these changes affect their specific situations. Providers usually offer guidance and resources to help customers make informed decisions about their tariffs. Additionally, official energy sector websites may provide updates and explanations of these tariff changes.
TNE: Thank you, Dr. Papadopoulos, for shedding light on the upcoming night tariff changes. Your insights are invaluable for our readers as they navigate their energy options this winter season.
MPP: Thank you for having me. It’s crucial that consumers stay informed about these changes to make the best choices for their energy usage.
