Gaétan Campeau, 49, had been wanted since Friday morning, after he managed to escape the vigilance of correctional officers and fled by stealing the car of a nurse from the Sacré-Coeur hospital.

After being found around 3 a.m. on the night of Friday to Saturday, the detainee was brought to the Montreal Detention Establishment (Bordeaux), confirmed Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the SQ. Mr. Campeau could face charges of escape from legal custody, car theft and receiving stolen goods in connection with this event, the SQ said in a press release.

Friday evening, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) had made public his photo as well as that of the car in which he was traveling. The vehicle was also found.

The investigation is still ongoing, said Catherine Bernard. The case, first handled by the Montreal Police Service, was then transferred to the SQ, since it concerns an inmate from a provincial institution.
