Meanwhile, India won the toss and elected to bat in the ongoing Day & Night Test in Bangalore. Mayank Agarwal (4 not out), Rohit Sharma (15 not out), Hanuma Vihari (31 not out) and Virat Kohli (23 not out) were all out as India fell to 86/4. Sri Lanka collapsed early in the first innings as the Indian bowlers fought back with the same coin. Bumra and Shami put Sri Lanka in a miserable 28/4. They also lost the wicket of Charitha Asalanka when they reached 50 on the scoreboard. Senior batsman Angelo Mathews tried to hold on but Bumra gave India another breakthrough by knocking down Mathews for 43.
At the end of the second day, Sri Lanka was 86/6. Niroshan Dickwella (13) and Lasith Embaldania (1) were at the crease. For India, Bumra took three wickets and Mohammad Shami two.
