by time news
India were bowled out for 252 in the first innings of the second Test against Sri Lanka (IND vs SL, 2nd Test). The batsmen were on the defensive as they stood with the pitch spinners at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India’s batting collapsed as the Sri Lankan bowlers collapsed on the strength of support from the pitch. Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant batting helped the Indian innings. Iyer’s performance in ODIs helped India cross the 250 mark. Iyer, who hit 10 fours and four sixes off 98 balls, was out for 92 in eight overs for a well-deserved century. Lasith Embuldenia and Praveen Jayawickrama took three wickets each for Sri Lanka.

Batting first, Sri Lanka batted poorly. They have lost four leading wickets while adding 29 runs. Boomera smashed two wickets to break Sri Lanka’s lead.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat. Mayank Agarwal (4) was run out due to a misunderstanding with captain Rohit Sharma. Soon after Mayank was out, Embildenia shocked India again by returning Rohit in the 10th over. Rohit, who scored 15 off 25 balls, including a six and a four, was bowled by Sri Lankan spinner Dhananjaya D’Silva.

Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli, who later teamed up at the crease, helped India recover from an early setback. The duo added 47 runs for the third wicket. Praveen Jayawickrama smashed an unbeaten 31 off 81 balls, including four fours. In the next over, Dhananjaya D’Silva smashed Kohli in front of the wicket to give India another lead. Kohli returned with 23 off 48 balls, including two fours. With this, Kohli’s wait for an international century was extended again.

Later, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant came together at the crease. The Indian score began to rise as the ball began to break, turning the Test match into a T20. However, Embuldenia broke the deadlock and bowled a breakthrough to Sri Lanka. He hit 39 off 26 balls with seven fours. He then came to the crease with a six-yard Jadeja with the bat and ball in the last match. But Jadeja was unable to repeat his explosive performance in the last match. The player who did not understand the bounce of the Embuldenia ball returned after giving the catch to Thirimanne. Jadeja scored just four runs.

With Ashwin (13) and Akshar (9) unable to make significant contributions, Iyer led the Indian innings with the help of the tail end. Iyer smashed his tail to the other side and finally came out on top.
