Chappell Roan is set for a full-circle moment on Saturday Night Live, but it might just come with a touch of awkwardness.
As the rising pop star prepares for her debut as a musical guest on the iconic sketch show, she may encounter presidential elections candidate, Kamala Harris, according to DailyMail.
Harris and Roan are both scheduled to appear on SNL‘s November 2 episode, just a few days before the November 5, 2024, election.
Meanwhile, Roan, whose birth name is Kayleigh Amstutz, expressed her excitement for what could be a dream come true, sharing a carousel of photos on Instagram on November 1. Included in the post is a screenshot of a Facebook status from April 2011 where she declared, “I am determined to be on SNL.” Roan also included a picture featuring comedian John Mulaney, who will be hosting the episode, and captioned the post, “@nbcsnl Tmrw night with @johnmulaney.”
Interview with Chappell Roan: Full Circle Moment on SNL
Editor (Time.news): Welcome, Chappell! It’s such an exciting time for you as you prepare for your debut on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest. Can you share what this moment means to you?
Chappell Roan: Thank you! This is truly a dream come true for me. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of performing on SNL. I actually shared a Facebook post back in April 2011, declaring that I’d do everything I could to make it happen. It’s incredible to see that come full circle now!
Editor: That journey must be rewarding. You’ll be sharing the stage with Kamala Harris and John Mulaney. What are your thoughts on performing alongside such prominent figures, especially just days before the election?
Chappell Roan: It’s surreal! I mean, Kamala Harris is a presidential candidate, and John Mulaney is a comedic genius. I’m definitely feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. It’s a significant moment, not just for me personally but also for the current political landscape. Having the chance to perform right before the election adds a layer of importance to the episode. I hope to bring joy and a little lightness to such a heavy time.
Editor: Speaking of lightness, how do you plan to balance your performance with the political commentary that may arise during the show?
Chappell Roan: That’s a great question. I believe in the power of music to bring people together, especially during tense times. My performance will be focused on positivity and connection. Comedians and political figures often satirize current events, and I think blending music with that humor can create a unique experience for the audience.
Editor: You mentioned your journey in music. Could you provide some advice for aspiring artists who look up to you and want to achieve their own dreams?
Chappell Roan: Absolutely! First, believe in yourself and your talents, even when faced with rejection. Your voice has value. Second, leverage social media like I did with Instagram to share your journey and connect with fans. Lastly, stay persistent. It may take time, but with hard work and dedication, opportunities will come your way. Look at my story—sometimes it takes years, but those dreams can become a reality!
Editor: Great insights! As you prepare for this momentous occasion, what do you hope your supporters take away from your performance on SNL?
Chappell Roan: I hope they feel inspired and uplifted. Music can be an escape and a source of joy, especially in a hectic world. I want my performance to resonate with people, reminding them to embrace their dreams regardless of obstacles. Plus, I hope they have as much fun watching as I will have performing!
Editor: Thank you, Chappell! We’re excited to see you on SNL and feel that magic on November 2. Best of luck with your performance!
Chappell Roan: Thank you so much! I can’t wait to share this experience with everyone!
