Editor (E): Good afternoon, Ambassador Lebbar. Thank you for joining us today. It was a momentous occasion celebrating Throne Day and marking 60 years of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Mexico. What did this celebration mean for both countries?
Ambassador Lebbar (AL): Good afternoon. Thank you for having me. The celebration held on Sunday was indeed a joyous occasion, not just for Morocco but also for Mexico. It provided us an opportunity to reflect on the strong ties we share, which have grown over the past six decades. The day symbolizes the deepening of our partnership, which is rooted in mutual respect and shared values.
E: The event was attended by a distinguished assembly of politicians, diplomats, and cultural figures. How did this gathering contribute to reinforcing the bond between Morocco and Mexico?
AL: The presence of such eminent personalities from various sectors demonstrates the commitment both nations have towards enhancing our relationship. Their participation underscores our shared aspirations and the importance of collaboration across different fields. This kind of networking is vital for fostering greater understanding and cooperation in politics, media, culture, and business.
E: During the ceremony, you emphasized the “strong symbiosis between the Throne and the people.” Can you elaborate on that concept and its significance in the context of Morocco’s development?
AL: Certainly. The Throne symbolizes the unity and continuity of the Moroccan state, while the people represent the driving force behind our progress. Under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has made significant advancements politically, economically, and socially. This relationship reassures the citizens that their aspirations for development and prosperity will be met as we work together toward common goals.
E: You mentioned Morocco’s diversification of its political and economic partnerships in a complicated global environment. How has this strategy impacted Morocco’s standing both regionally and internationally?
AL: Morocco’s strategy to diversify partnerships has been instrumental in enhancing our position on the continent and the global stage. It allows us to engage with multiple international players, garner support for our territorial integrity, and adapt to the challenges posed by an unstable global landscape. This proactive diplomacy has opened doors for collaboration in trade, technology, and more.
E: Going into more specifics about Moroccan-Mexican relations: how do you view the potential for future collaborations, especially given your mention of high-tech industries and renewable energies?
AL: The potential is immense. Both Morocco and Mexico have open economies that are well-positioned to engage in high-value exports and advanced technology sectors. Our collaboration in renewable energy, which is increasingly vital for sustainable development, could set a precedent for other countries. The 17 agreements we have in place across various domains provide a solid framework to advance these initiatives.
E: What drives the Moroccan government’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Mexico in areas such as agriculture, animal health, and academic exchanges?
AL: These areas are critical not only for our economic growth but also for building resilience against global challenges such as food security and climate change. Academic exchanges foster innovation and knowledge sharing, while cooperation in agriculture and animal health addresses local and global needs. Our partnership is geared towards creating a sustainable future for both nations.
