In her first month in office, the mayor Gaby Osorio has launched a series of key strategies to address the urgent priorities of the community, standing out as a pioneer in Mexico City by establishing specialized offices in Mobility, Security and Water. This innovative organizational structure allows for more effective coordination on critical issues for the inhabitants of Tlalpan.
One of the most notable achievements of his administration has been the operation carried out in Ajusco, in coordination with the government of Mexico City, which resulted in the recovery of almost three hectares of land in an ecological conservation area located in kilometer 7.2 of the Picacho-Ajusco Highway. This action underlines the commitment of the Osorio government to the protection of natural resources and the defense of green areas in the demarcation.

Interview between Time.news Editor and Urban Policy Expert on Mayor Gaby Osorio’s Initiatives
Time.news Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we’re diving into some exciting developments in local governance with a focus on Mexico City, specifically the actions of newly-elected Mayor Gaby Osorio. I’m joined by Dr. Elena Ramirez, an expert in urban policy and sustainable development. Thank you for being here, Dr. Ramirez.
Dr. Elena Ramirez: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to discuss the innovative initiatives being implemented by Mayor Osorio.
Time.news Editor: Let’s start with the organizational changes she’s introduced. Mayor Osorio has established specialized offices in Mobility, Security, and Water. How do you see this structure impacting governance in Tlalpan?
Dr. Elena Ramirez: This restructuring is a game-changer. By creating specialized offices, Mayor Osorio is addressing critical areas that affect daily life for residents. This allows for streamlined decision-making and better resource allocation, enabling a more responsive and effective governance model. It also shows a commitment to tackling complex urban challenges with specific expertise.
Time.news Editor: One of her notable achievements has been the recovery of land in an ecological conservation area. Why is this significant for the community and for urban planning as a whole?
Dr. Elena Ramirez: Recovering nearly three hectares of land for ecological conservation is crucial on multiple fronts. Firstly, it helps preserve natural resources, which is essential for maintaining biodiversity and protecting ecosystems. For the community, green spaces are vital for quality of life, offering recreational opportunities and improving air quality. From an urban planning perspective, this decision signals a shift towards sustainability, emphasizing the importance of integrating nature into urban environments.
Time.news Editor: You mentioned sustainability, which is a hot topic these days. How do you think Mayor Osorio’s initiatives could inspire other urban areas, not only in Mexico but globally?
Dr. Elena Ramirez: Mayor Osorio’s initiatives can serve as a model for cities worldwide facing similar urban challenges. Her approach to integrating specialized governance structures, focusing on ecological preservation, and actively involving the community in decision-making processes shows the potential for innovative solutions. Other cities can learn from her commitment to bridging the gap between urban development and environmental conservation, a balance that many are still struggling to achieve.
Time.news Editor: Shifting gears a bit to mobility, there’s been an agreement with Six Flags México aimed at reducing vehicular traffic. How effective do you think this partnership will be?
Dr. Elena Ramirez: Partnerships like this are promising because they bring together different sectors—public and private—to address common issues. By collaborating with a significant local business such as Six Flags, there’s an opportunity to create incentives for reduced traffic, like shuttle services or promotional events that encourage the use of public transport. If executed well, it could significantly improve traffic flow and contribute to reducing emissions.
Time.news Editor: As a new mayor, Gaby Osorio is making quite an impact. What do you think will be her biggest challenge in maintaining this momentum?
Dr. Elena Ramirez: One of her biggest challenges will be sustaining community engagement and public trust over time. It’s essential to communicate progress and involve citizens in the implementation of these initiatives. Additionally, balancing economic development with environmental sustainability will be a continual struggle, especially as pressures from urbanization grow. If she can navigate these challenges effectively, she’ll set a strong precedent for future leaders.
Time.news Editor: Fascinating insights, Dr. Ramirez! It seems like the road ahead is challenging but filled with potential. Any final thoughts on the era of Gaby Osorio?
Dr. Elena Ramirez: Mayor Osorio has the opportunity to lead Tlalpan toward a more sustainable and equitable future. If she harnesses community support, collaborates effectively, and maintains a focus on innovation, she could become a benchmark for urban governance in Mexico and beyond.
