Repeated‍ storms in eastern Spain that caused massive ⁣floods last ⁣week and killed at least 217 people, mostly near Valencia, are now hitting Barcelona, prompting authorities to train service in the suburb to suspend.

Spain’s Transport Minister Oscar Puente said he was suspending all commuter trains in northeastern Catalonia, a region of 8 million people, at the request of civil defense officials.

Mobile phones in Barcelona received a warning ‌of “massive and continuous rain” in⁤ the southern suburbs of‌ the city. The warning urged people ⁣to avoid any dry canyons or ‌canals.

Puente said the rain forced air traffic controllers to divert 15 flights⁣ operating at Barcelona airport, ⁣located on the south side of the⁣ city.

Several roads ⁤were‌ closed due to flooding.

Classes were canceled in Tarragona, a city in southern Catalonia about halfway between Barcelona and Valencia, after a red alert for rain.
