During his reunion with Olympique Lyonnais at the start of the season, Bruno Genesio saw his Stade Rennais sign a major victory on the lawn of Roazhon Park (4-1). For his big return to Lyon, this Sunday, the Rennes coach was treated to Act 2. Thanks to an almost flawless collective performance and an ultra-realistic first period, the Bretons once again scored four goals against the Lyonnais (4-2), and temporarily climb to the Ligue 1 podium.
3-0 at halftime
It only took a period for the Rouge et Noir to bend this meeting. From the first quarter of an hour, Rennes validated a first big highlight in the Lyon half of the field by scoring two goals in quick succession, first by Bourigeaud, well served in depth by Laborde (0-1, 11th), then Santamaria, whose shot at the entrance to the surface was deflected to deceive Lopes (0-2, 13th).
The Lyon goalkeeper had a complicated first act: after a ball which almost cost his team 3-0, he was guilty at the end of the period of a bad recovery which put his defense in difficulty and, this time, resulted in Rennes’ third goal, signed Majer (0-3, 45th).
As soon as they returned from the locker room, the Rennais even took the mark to 4-0 by Martin Terrier, the former Lyonnais, author of his 14th goal of the season in Ligue 1 with a long shot in the top corner (0-4, 48th ). A salty addition for Lyon, whose awakening far too late only had the effect of reducing the mark, first thanks to an own goal offered by Hamari Traoré (1-4, 59th), then thanks to Moussa Dembélé, from the penalty spot (2-4, 82nd).
A heavy defeat that dropped the Lyonnais to 10th place in Ligue 1, eight points from the podium and six points from fifth place, qualifying for Europe.
