The French branch of online retail giant Amazon announced Tuesday that it is creating a free delivery solution for books, which a law sought to ban, thanks to its automated lockers. From October 2023, Amazon.fr must charge a minimum of 3 euros for the delivery of books, for any order under 35 euros. The law of 30 December 2021 on the book economy provides for the delivery of new books “I can’t under any circumstances” Be free, “unless the book is picked up at a retail book store”.
This law is intended to encourage French people to purchase their books in a bookstore or other point of sale. It was challenged by Amazon before the administrative courts, which requested the opinion of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
