Interview:
Editor: Welcome to our special segment at Time.news! Today, we have with us Dr. Min-hee Lee, an expert in inclusive sports and wellness advocacy, to discuss the recent 2024 Seoul Forest Sports Festival. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Lee!
Dr. Lee: Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here to discuss such an important event.
Editor: Fila Korea has sponsored the Seoul Forest Sports Festival for three consecutive years. How significant is this collaboration for the event and the broader community?
Dr. Lee: Fila’s ongoing sponsorship is incredibly significant. It not only provides necessary resources like uniforms and prizes but also sends a powerful message about inclusivity and corporate responsibility. By investing in programs that cater to disabled students, Fila helps foster a more inclusive sports culture, which is essential for breaking down barriers and promoting understanding between disabled and non-disabled individuals.
Editor: The festival aims to improve awareness of disabilities and nurture aspiring athletes. Can you share how events like these impact participants?
Dr. Lee: Absolutely! Events like the Seoul Forest Sports Festival create a platform where disabled and non-disabled students can interact, compete, and support one another. This not only promotes physical wellness but also enhances social skills and fosters friendships. Additionally, it helps participants challenge stereotypes and encourages a sense of community and belonging. Such experiences can be transformative, helping to build self-esteem and encouraging future athletic pursuits, regardless of one’s abilities.
Editor: I noticed that the festival includes a diverse range of sports and experiences—from basketball and volleyball to wheelchair badminton and boccia. What is the importance of offering such a variety?
Dr. Lee: Offering a diverse range of sports is crucial for inclusivity. It ensures that there is something for everyone, catering to varied interests and abilities. Each sport can provide unique benefits; for example, wheelchair basketball enhances teamwork and strategic thinking, while boccia can improve fine motor skills and concentration. This variety not only keeps participants engaged but also allows them to discover their strengths and passions. It’s about creating an environment where everyone can find joy in physical activity.
Editor: The festival, co-hosted by the Seoul Sports Association for the Disabled and Sports Chosun, carries a beautiful message of harmony and mutual respect. How do you see this theme resonating with the younger generation?
Dr. Lee: The theme of harmony is incredibly powerful, especially for younger generations. It encourages them to embrace differences and see the value in diversity. By engaging in this festival, young people learn that sports can unite us despite our differences. This foundational lesson can have lasting effects, fostering empathy, collaboration, and friendship in their everyday lives. As these values take root in today’s youth, we can hope for a future where inclusivity and respect for all individuals are the norm.
