The age-standardized Covid death rate for the population aged 12 and over in the period January 14-February 13, for the unvaccinated is “about 15 times higher than for vaccinated with boosters”: 96 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants among the unvaccinated, against 7 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants among those who received the booster of the anti-Covid vaccine. This is one of the data emerging from the extended report of the Higher Institute of Health (Iss), ‘Covid-19: surveillance, impact of infections and vaccination efficacy’.
For the unvaccinated, the age-standardized death rate is then about 5 times higher than for vaccinated with a full cycle of 120 days or less (among which there are 19 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants).
EFFICACIA BOOSTER – The effectiveness of the anti-Covid vaccine in preventing cases of severe disease is 92% in people vaccinated with a booster dose and drops to 85% in vaccinated with a full course of less than 90 days, to 87% in vaccinated with a cycle complete for 91 and 120 days, and 82% in vaccinated people who have completed the vaccination cycle for more than 120 days, the report reads.
REINFEZIONI – With the rise and domination of the Omicron variant of Sars-CoV-2, the attention of health institutions has intensified on the episodes of reinfection, on the number of people who had already infected with the virus and who have taken it again. “In the last week the percentage of Covid reinfections on the total reported cases was equal to 3.3%, stable compared to the previous week” is the latest update that emerges from the report.
INCIDENCE – In the last 2 weeks, from 21 February to 6 March 2022, the “highest 14-day incidence rate” of Covid cases was recorded in the age groups 0-9 and 10-19, “respectively 1,424 and 1437 per 100,000, while in the 70-79 age group the lowest value is recorded, 471 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The median age of people reported with infection in the last 14 days is 38 years, slightly increase compared to the past few weeks “is the picture drawn by the extended report of the Higher Institute of Health.
