Ferencváros, taking advantage of its man advantage, won 4-0 in Hamburg as a guest of Dinamo Kyiv in the fourth round of the regular season of the European football league, and with its success on Thursday, it confirmed its place in the next round.
The Ukrainians held their own in the first half, despite the fact that Vladyslav Dubinchak’s red card put them at a man disadvantage in the 17th minute – although let’s add that Fradi dominated the match until then. In the second half, the Hungarian champions gained a huge advantage, winning easily with Barnabás Varga’s double and goals from Kristoffer Zachariassen and substitute Matheus Saldanha.
In the second European Cup series, Dinamo Kyiv, which was going without a point or a goal, lost to a Hungarian team for the first time in its history.
Ferencváros will host Swedish FF Malmö in the fifth round in three weeks at the Groupama Arena.

The victims of the Valencia floods were commemorated with a one-minute mourning break before the meeting in the Volksparkstadion, where, due to the war in Ukraine, Dynamo Kyiv plays its home games on the international stage. Despite the neutral venue, the stadium, which can accommodate more than 50,000 spectators, was visited by more than five thousand fans, including three hundred Ferencváros fans.
The match started with the Hungarian champions dominating the field, but no serious situation developed, and Dinamo settled their ranks after ten minutes. As soon as the game became balanced, with the assistance of the video referee, the Ukrainian team was put in a man disadvantage, as Dubincsak badly stepped on Makreckis’ ankle. After the completely justified red card, Ferencváros controlled again, and had to wait more than twenty minutes for the first shot to hit the goal, Kady’s attempt was pushed over the crossbar by Buscsan.
With a man disadvantage, the Ukrainians clearly set up for a counterplay, they had a dangerous start, for example, Ramírez blocked Volosin’s shot from a dangerous spot at the last moment. In the remaining time until the break, the green and whites had more and more possession, Buscsan defended several times, but his only really difficult task was Abu Fani’s shot to the bottom left corner. Despite this, the Kyiv team was somewhat closer to the goal, as first Kabajev’s shot from a sharp angle and then Vanat’s header hit the crossbar.
After the change of half, Ferencváros took to the pitch with an even more attacking attitude, gained a clear advantage and pinned down their opponent. The goalkeeper of the Ukrainians saved three times in five minutes, and twice the defenders saved from the goal line. The great pressure paid off, as Ferencváros scored two goals in three minutes and almost decided the match: first the top scorer Barna Varga and then Zachariassen found the back of the net.
After that, the green and white team slowed down a bit, but Varga still scored his second goal with a header. The substitute players gave FTC a new boost, as Kaján, making his debut in the group stage, hit the crossbar, while the Gruber-Saldanha duo set the final score one minute after his substitution: the Brazilian striker scored from a pass by the Hungarian player, who was called up to the Hungarian national team for the first time. In the first half, the Ukrainians fought hard for the honor goal, but their efforts were not crowned with success.

Time.news Interview: Analyzing Ferencváros’ Impressive Victory in D.C. Kyiv
Editor: Welcome to Time.news. Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Daniel Kovács, a sports analyst with deep insight into European football. Dr. Kovács, thank you for joining us.
Dr. Kovács: Thank you for having me. It’s always a pleasure to discuss football, especially after such an exhilarating match!
Editor: Absolutely! Ferencváros secured a striking 4-0 victory against Dinamo Kyiv. What do you think were the key factors that led to this dominant performance?
Dr. Kovács: There were several factors at play. First and foremost, the early red card for Vladyslav Dubinchak created a significant imbalance. Dinamo Kyiv initially held their own, but once they were reduced to ten men, Ferencváros exploited this man advantage brilliantly.
Editor: Indeed, they seemed to shift into a higher gear after halftime. How crucial was that change in momentum for them?
Dr. Kovács: Very crucial! The confidence shift after the halftime break was palpable. The Hungarian champions came out with a clear strategy to capitalize on their numerical advantage. Players like Barnabás Varga and Kristoffer Zachariassen executed that strategy perfectly, contributing to a flurry of goals.
Editor: Speaking of Varga, his two goals were pivotal. What can you say about his performance and what it meant for the team?
Dr. Kovács: Varga’s performance was outstanding. His first goal showcased his striking instinct, firing into the upper corner after receiving a smart pass. His second goal illustrated his positioning and aerial prowess as he headed the ball in close range. He’s a player who thrives in high-pressure moments, and he certainly delivered.
Editor: Ferencváros not only secured a win but also progressed to the next round of the tournament. What does this victory say about their chances in the ongoing European campaign?
Dr. Kovács: This win is a significant confidence booster for Ferencváros. It’s their first victory over a Ukrainian side in the European context, which is historic. If they maintain this momentum and continue to build on their tactics and performance, they could be serious contenders going forward, especially as they prepare to face Malmö FF next.
Editor: That match will be exciting for sure. Any thoughts on how the team should approach their next game?
Dr. Kovács: They need to carry this attacking mindset into their match against Malmö. It’s essential for them to maintain their defensive discipline while exploiting any weaknesses in the Swedish team. Additionally, without getting overconfident, they should prepare for a potentially tougher opponent.
Editor: You mentioned that this match was played at a neutral venue due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. How does that context affect the teams, particularly Dinamo Kyiv?
Dr. Kovács: It certainly adds emotional weight to their matches. Playing as the home team in a neutral venue creates unique challenges, especially in front of fewer fans than they would typically have. The players of Dinamo Kyiv are under immense pressure, both emotionally and psychologically, and that can impact their performance on the pitch.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Kovács, for sharing your insights. It’s clear that this victory is significant for Ferencváros and serves as an important moment in their season.
Dr. Kovács: Thank you for having me! It’s an exciting time in European football, and I look forward to seeing how the rest of the tournament unfolds.
Editor: And to our readers, stay tuned for more updates and analyses on the world of sports. Thank you for joining us!
