“The energy of the children during the workshop at the villa, the camera that was always left behind even though the intention was for documentation, the NHK documentary broadcast about factories in Japan, the nostalgic feeling of returning to Bogor, the tired story of a friend who always commuted through Manggarai, until the image of a morning destroyed by genocide in Palestine,” said Bayu Swellow, Friday (8/11).
Idam explained that the process of working on the EP Pasang was not too rushed and was relatively relaxed compared to working on the Katus album.
Almost the entire recording process was carried out in Bogor, except for two songs with collaborators which were carried out separately.

Interview: Exploring “Pasang” with Swellow
Interviewer (Time.news Editor): Welcome to Time.news! Today, we’re thrilled to have with us Bayu Ramadhan Dwi Azni, the lead vocalist of Swellow—a rising indie rock band from Bogor. Their new mini-album, “Pasang,” just hit the shelves. Bayu, congratulations on the release! How does it feel to finally share this album with your fans?
Bayu Ramadhan Dwi Azni: Thank you! It feels incredible. We’ve put a lot of heart and soul into “Pasang,” and we’re excited to share these personal experiences through our music. There’s a certain vulnerability that comes with releasing new material, but it’s also very rewarding.
Interviewer: That’s awesome to hear! The EP contains seven songs. Can you share a bit about the overall theme or inspiration behind this album?
Bayu: Absolutely! The theme of “Pasang” revolves around personal experiences and reflections on life—everything we’ve been feeling recently, the ups and downs. Each track has its own story, but together they weave a narrative about growth and introspection.
Interviewer: It sounds profound. I noticed two tracks feature collaborations with The Cottons and Zeke Khaseli. What inspired you to collaborate with these artists?
Bayu: Collaborations are always exciting! The Cottons have a unique sound that syncs well with our style. We wanted to enrich the album’s diversity, and Zeke Khaseli brings his own flair that elevates certain tracks. Working together allowed us to experiment with our sound and create something special for our listeners.
Interviewer: That’s a fantastic approach! I’d love to dive into some specific tracks. Can you give us insight into one of your favorites from the album?
Bayu: Sure! One of my favorites is “Noon.” It captures that fleeting moment of clarity we sometimes feel during the day—the small victories and realizations that come with it. I think many people can relate to that feeling, and I hope it resonates with listeners as much as it does with us.
Interviewer: It’s interesting how everyday experiences can inspire art. With “Pasang” now out, what’s next for Swellow? Is there a tour or upcoming projects in the works?
Bayu: Yes, we’re planning to do some live gigs to promote the album, which we’re really looking forward to! We’re also working on new music, inspired by the feedback and experiences from this release. It’s an exciting time for us, and we can’t wait to see where our journey takes us next.
Interviewer: Sounds like you have a full plate ahead! Lastly, for our readers who may not have heard your music yet, what do you want them to take away from “Pasang”?
Bayu: I hope ”Pasang” allows listeners to connect with their own experiences and feelings. Music can be a powerful tool for understanding ourselves, and if our songs can evoke any emotion or thought, then we’ve done our job as artists. We’re just grateful for the opportunity to share our story with everyone.
Interviewer: Beautifully said, Bayu. Thank you for taking the time to talk with us today. Best of luck with “Pasang” and all your future endeavors!
Bayu: Thank you so much for having me! We appreciate the support.
