MANCHESTER UNITED – PAOK 2-0:
After three consecutive draws in the Europa League, Ruud van Nistelrooy led United to their first three points of the season in the tournament.
Manchester United did not convince greatly in Thursday’s match against PAOK, but Amad Diallo’s two goals in the second half were enough.
The 22-year-old was given the chance from the start and impressed on the right wing. First, he headed in a lovely ball from Bruno Fernandes in a small arc over the PAOK goalkeeper and into the net at the beginning of the second half.
With fifteen minutes left to play, he did everything himself as he doubled the lead. He snatched a ball from PAOK and sped towards the goal. From outside the box, he beautifully curled the ball into the goal.
– A fantastic player, the best player on the field today, said BBC expert Izzy Christiansen about the Ivorian’s performance against PAOK.
Thursday’s victory over PAOK is United’s first win in Europe in 380 days. The previous win came against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League group stage last year.
Wide-eyed
The match itself may not have been a highlight in terms of entertainment, but several took note of what happened in the stands at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
4,000 PAOK supporters filled the away section long before the match started. Additionally, several PAOK fans are said to have purchased tickets among the home supporters.

The atmosphere the Greeks created both before the match started and during it made many wide-eyed.
– That’s quite a traveling support, he wrote on X.
– No prettier sight
BBC reporter Simon Stone also pointed out how much noise the away supporters made.
– These PAOK supporters really create a racket. There will be quite a noise if they actually score, he reported from Old Trafford.
Sky Sports’ reporter at Manchester United’s home ground was also taken aback by the PAOK fans, who seem to surpass most away supporters who have traveled to Manchester in recent years.
– There is no prettier sight in football than 4,000 away fans all jumping up and down together. The Greek supporters inside Old Trafford are so loud, said Peter Stevenson.
However, it was only the home supporters who had something to celebrate on Thursday night. United now sits in 15th place in the Europa League table with six points from four matches.
In the next Europa League match, Manchester United will host Bodø/Glimt. It will be played on Thursday, November 28.
Interview Segment: Time.news Editor Meets Soccer Expert
Editor: Welcome, everyone, to our exclusive interview at Time.news! Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with renowned soccer expert and analyst Izzy Christiansen. Izzy, thank you for joining us!
Izzy Christiansen: Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here.
Editor: Let’s dive right into Manchester United’s recent performance against PAOK in the Europa League. After a string of three consecutive draws, how significant was this 2-0 victory for United?
Izzy: It was absolutely crucial for Manchester United. This win not only breaks the streak of draws but also marks their first victory in European competition in 380 days! It finally gives them some momentum going forward in the tournament.
Editor: Speaking of momentum, Amad Diallo’s performance was certainly impressive. He scored both goals in the second half. What makes his style of play stand out?
Izzy: Amad is an exceptional talent. His first goal showcased his ability to find space and execute a well-timed header from a brilliant ball by Bruno Fernandes. But it was his second goal that truly highlighted his skill—he took the ball, displayed remarkable pace, and curled it beautifully into the net from outside the box. It was a display of confidence and creativity!
Editor: You referred to him as the best player on the field. What do you believe he needs to do to maintain and build upon this kind of performance?
Izzy: Consistency is key for Amad. He has the raw talent, but to solidify his place in the team, he needs to deliver these types of performances regularly. Keeping his confidence high and staying injury-free will be crucial. Also, building strong chemistry with his teammates will allow him to shine even brighter.
Editor: While the match itself had its moments, it wasn’t exactly an electrifying spectacle. How do you assess the overall quality of United’s gameplay in this match?
Izzy: I’d say this win was more pragmatic than pretty. Manchester United didn’t dominate possession as one might expect, but they were effective in making the most of their opportunities. They’ll need to tighten up their overall play if they want to compete effectively in the later stages of the tournament.
Editor: And what about the atmosphere at Old Trafford? It seems the PAOK fans made quite an impression.
Izzy: Absolutely! The presence of about 4,000 PAOK supporters created a vibrant atmosphere that added to the match’s intensity. Their passion is infectious, and it’s always great to see such dedicated fanbases come out to support their teams. It underscores the beautiful game’s importance across cultures.
Editor: Given that this victory might provide a spark for United, how do you predict it will impact their trajectory in the Europa League moving forward?
Izzy: If United can build on this victory, it could be the turning point they need. Confidence from these three points can galvanize the team, especially if they carry that energy into their upcoming fixtures. They need to use this win as a foundation to develop their form and make a real push in the competition.
