Out for Murray in the third Wimbledon round

by time news

Dhe two-time winner Andy Murray was eliminated in the third round at Wimbledon. The former tennis world number one from Scotland lost 4: 6, 2: 6, 2: 6 against the Canadian Denis Shapovalov on Friday evening. After long injury breaks and a temporary resignation, Murray competed in the individual competition at Wimbledon for the first time in four years and had to admit defeat after 2:16 hours.

The 34-year-old had left a lot of strength in his two victories this week, including on Wednesday evening in the five-set win over Oscar Otte from Cologne. Shapovalov, on the other hand, came into the third round without a fight after his narrow first round victory over Augsburg’s Philipp Kohlschreiber and therefore more rested.

The left-hander, who was number ten, did not let himself be stopped by a break in which the roof was closed and the light was switched on because of the falling darkness. The 22-year-old Shapovalov will face the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the round of 16, who previously won against the German professional Dominik Koepfer.
