“There are a lot of unspeakable, untold stories (stories) that are melted into music.”
Singer Kim Jaejoong recalled the past during a joint concert with Kim Junsu to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his debut.
Kim Jae-joong and Kim Jun-su held a performance on the second day of ‘JX 2024 Concert Identity in Seoul’ (JX 2024 CONCERT in Seoul) at KSPO Dome (former gymnastics stadium) in Songpa-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 9th.
At this event, Kim Jaejoong said, “I got teary-eyed while singing today. We are together and singing songs we couldn’t sing before, but there are still a lot of stories we couldn’t sing.”
He said, “There are so many stories, and we can talk about them and say, ‘We used to do that,’ but there are a lot of stories that can’t be told, and (stories) are melted into the music.” He added, “When I sing, the frustration is relieved to some extent.” “Thank you so much for those things,” he said, shaking hands with Kim Junsu.
Meanwhile, ‘JX Concert Identity in Seoul’ is a joint concert held by Kim Jae-joong and Kim Jun-su from the 8th to the 10th to celebrate their 20th debut anniversary. Kim Jae-joong and Kim Jun-su will continue their ‘Identity’ performance at the Beruna Dome in Saitama, Japan for two days on December 14th and 15th after finishing their performance in Seoul.

Interview Between Time.news Editor and Music Expert
Time.news Editor: Welcome, everyone, to a very special feature for our readers. Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with renowned music expert, Dr. Min Seo, to dive into the emotional depths of the recent concert “JX 2024 Concert Identity in Seoul” featuring Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Seo.
Dr. Min Seo: Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to discuss such a significant event in the K-pop world.
Editor: To set the stage, this concert commemorates the 20th anniversary of Kim Jaejoong’s debut. From your perspective, why is such a milestone significant in the careers of artists?
Dr. Seo: Milestones like these often serve as reflective moments for artists. For someone like Kim Jaejoong, who has had a substantial career in K-pop, it’s a chance to look back at his journey, share unsung stories, and connect more intimately with his audience. It’s not just a celebration of success, but also a recognition of the struggles and experiences that shaped him as an artist.
Editor: Absolutely. In his performance, Jaejoong expressed feelings of nostalgia and revealed that there are many untold stories intertwined with his music. How do you interpret this sentiment?
Dr. Seo: That’s quite a profound statement. Music has an uncanny ability to encapsulate emotions and narratives that might otherwise remain hidden. Jaejoong’s acknowledgment of these “unspeakable stories” suggests a deep relationship between his life experiences and the songs he performs. It speaks to the therapeutic quality of music for both the artist and the listener. Through performances, these stories are released, providing a form of catharsis.
Editor: Interesting! He also mentioned how singing alleviates frustration for him. Do you think this feeling is common among artists in high-pressure fields like K-pop?
Dr. Seo: Absolutely. The K-pop industry, in particular, is known for its intense demands on artists, from rigorous training to the pressure of public scrutiny. Many artists find solace and relief through their performances, which serve as both an outlet and a reminder of their passion. For Jaejoong, singing not only honors his past but also liberates him from the weight of those experiences.
Editor: Speaking of performances, the concert series “Identity” consists of several dates and will be followed by events in Japan. How do you think touring impacts artists emotionally and professionally?
Dr. Seo: Touring can be both exhilarating and exhausting. On one hand, it creates opportunities for artists to connect with fans and share their music broadly—this is incredibly rewarding. On the other hand, it can also be draining, both physically and emotionally. For Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu, performing together like this not only strengthens their bond but also reinforces their legacy in a competitive industry. It can also evoke a range of emotions from nostalgia to pride.
Editor: That’s a valuable insight. With so much emotion layered into these performances, what do you think differentiates a concert like this from more traditional performances in other music genres?
Dr. Seo: K-pop concerts are unique due to their integration of visual performance, elaborate choreography, and engaging storytelling. This concert, in particular, seems to prioritize emotional connection over pure entertainment, drawing from personal histories and the artists’ shared journey. The blending of heartfelt narrative with performance art creates an experience that resonates deeply with fans, making them feel part of something larger.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Seo, for these thoughtful insights into Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu’s concert. It’s fascinating to explore the layers of meaning behind their music and performances.
Dr. Seo: Thank you for having me. As K-pop continues to evolve, events like these are vital for understanding its cultural significance and the personal stories that resonate through the music.
Editor: Indeed, and we look forward to covering more on this topic as it develops! Stay tuned, everyone, for more updates on the K-pop industry and the stories behind the music.
