This is one of the biggest challenges in the world of sport: 40 sailors (34 men and 6 women) of 11 different nationalities will leave on November 10, 2024 to face the oceans for a solo sailing trip around the world, non-stop and without assistance on monohulls of just over 18 metres. The departure of the Vendée Globe will be at 12:02 UT from Sables-d’Olonne. The former is expected to return to this city on France’s Atlantic coast within two and a half months. But reaching the end of this race is already an achievement. A final quest pursued by very different athletes. It’s a typical profile: the youngest in the fleet is 23, the oldest 65, and they all have good reasons to start.
