City Councilor for Kaup-Hasler Culture on the death of Katharina Copony | City of Vienna

Vienna (OTS) –

“Katharina Copony’s film work pushed the boundaries of information and was characterized by an intense relationship with space⁣ and sound: she worked‌ and explored the tension ⁣between inside and outside, sound and voice, between the spoken ⁤and the unspoken, ⁣the obvious and the hidden ,” says ⁢Wiens. City Councilor ‌for⁢ Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler expressed her deep‌ sadness today ⁤at ⁣the far too soon⁣ loss of the ‍filmmaker.

“With ‘In der Kaserne’ she ‌created‍ a personal‌ work somewhere between a feature film and a documentary, a humorous portrait ⁢in ‌which she placed the personal history of her family in southern Styria in a universal context.‍ These boundary⁢ crossings‌ also made ⁣the‌ audience look beyond⁢ the edge of the⁣ familiar and tackle the ⁣spaces between them ‌that she created with⁤ great sensitivity.

Katharina Copony⁢ has been awarded many awards, such ⁣as the “Outstanding Artist Award” for the film ⁣(documentary) from the‍ Republic of Austria‍ in 2012. In December 2019 Filmarchiv Austria honored her with a great‍ exhibition.
