“Katharina Copony’s film work pushed the boundaries of information and was characterized by an intense relationship with space and sound: she worked and explored the tension between inside and outside, sound and voice, between the spoken and the unspoken, the obvious and the hidden ,” says Wiens. City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler expressed her deep sadness today at the far too soon loss of the filmmaker.
“With ‘In der Kaserne’ she created a personal work somewhere between a feature film and a documentary, a humorous portrait in which she placed the personal history of her family in southern Styria in a universal context. These boundary crossings also made the audience look beyond the edge of the familiar and tackle the spaces between them that she created with great sensitivity.
Katharina Copony has been awarded many awards, such as the “Outstanding Artist Award” for the film (documentary) from the Republic of Austria in 2012. In December 2019 Filmarchiv Austria honored her with a great exhibition.
