Giant hornbill caught; Sold at auction; ‘Trapped’ Fishermen | Shark

by time news

The fishermen who caught and sold the 250 kg horned shark are now trapped. Sofish, a critically endangered species protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act of 1972, was auctioned off by fishermen from Malpe, Karnataka. Authorities have said they will file a case against the fishermen.

The crew of the fishing boat ‘Sea Captain’ got the 10 feet long horn shark. The shark was rescued with the help of a crane. Many people came to the harbor to see the rare shark when it was caught. A native of Mangalore bought the shark through an auction.

The sight of the shark went viral on social media. With this, a case should be registered against the fishermen, said Ganesh, director, fisheries department. Selling fish is a punishable offense, even if it is accidental, as it is threatened with extinction. It has been suggested that fishermen may receive a punishment similar to that for killing a tiger or an elephant.
