Riyadh: Public taxi fares have been increased in cities across Saudi Arabia. Local newspapers quoted the Public Transport Authority as saying that taxi fares had been increased. According to the revised rates, the minimum fare for any journey (in a four-passenger vehicle) will be 10 riyals. Earlier it was five riyals.

The charge for traveling one kilometer has been increased from 1.8 riyals to 2.1 riyals. Taxi service charges have been hiked by 16.36 per cent to 6.4 riyals instead of 5.5 riyals. If the speed of the vehicle is less than 20 kilometers per hour, the charge will increase by 12.5 percent per minute. The waiting charge will be 0.9 riyals instead of 0.8 riyals. Charges for public taxis that can carry five or more passengers have also been increased. The charge for meter opening has been increased by 21.67 per cent. Accordingly, the new charge will be 7.3 riyals instead of 6 riyals. For a kilometer, the charge will increase by 20 per cent to 2.4 riyals instead of two riyals. The waiting charge will increase by 22.22 per cent to 1.1 riyals instead of 0.9 riyals.
