The backlash on social media can be intense. Lisa Marie Schiffner knows this person. She started uploading videos to YouTube at the age of twelve. Back then, Schiffner’s first steps on social networks were amused by his classmates, which also inspired teachers.
Often came home crying
“Some of them were the teachers who are there when you feel bad, normal confidence, who even encouraged him. “Teachers who played my videos during lessons and laughed about them with the kids while I was sitting in class,” says the now 23-year-old in an interview with Robert Kratky on “Kratky sucht das Glück”.
The beginning was difficult. Schiffner suffered from the hostility. “Of course I came home crying every day. I couldn’t hold it back at all.” The wounds are deep: “I’m still really struggling with it.” Schiffner still receives hateful messages today, for example because of her pimples on her back, which She also posts on her Instagram channel for authenticity reasons.
But now the positive feedback is greater and the influence can be in dealing with the head wind. “It’s so nice that people know they’re not alone in this situation.” And these messages are also a reminder to the affected person: “After reading all this, I also realize that I am not alone.”

Editor (Time.news): Welcome, everyone, to this engaging discussion where we dive deep into the world of social media and its impact on young creators. Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Lisa Marie Schiffner, a young influencer who began her journey on YouTube at just twelve years old. Thank you for joining us, Lisa!
Lisa Marie Schiffner: Thank you for having me! It’s great to be here.
Editor: Lisa, your story is quite remarkable. Starting at such a young age can be daunting. What was it like for you in those early days on YouTube?
Lisa: It was definitely a mixed bag of emotions. I remember feeling excited to create content, but there were also a lot of challenges. As a kid, I was just exploring this new world, and I faced a lot of criticism from my peers.
Editor: You mentioned the backlash from your classmates. Can you elaborate on that?
Lisa: Sure. When I first started uploading videos, I think my classmates saw it as amusing fodder. Some days I would come home crying because of what they said or how they reacted. It was really tough to handle.
Editor: That sounds incredibly challenging. You mentioned that some of the teachers encouraged you, even playing your videos during lessons. How did that support impact you?
Lisa: It was a double-edged sword. On one hand, it felt good to have some adult validation; on the other hand, being the subject of laughter was hard. It made me feel like I was in a vulnerable position. But I realized that the encouragement from those supportive teachers helped me to push through the negativity and keep creating.
Editor: It’s inspiring to see how you transformed those experiences into motivation. As you look back now at your twelve-year-old self, what advice would you give that younger Lisa?
Lisa: I would tell her that it’s okay to be different and that not everyone’s opinion matters. The criticism may sting, but it can also be a stepping stone to growth. Focus on the people who support you and the reasons you started creating in the first place.
Editor: Powerful advice! Social media is now evolving rapidly. How do you see the landscape for emerging creators today compared to your experience?
Lisa: I think it’s both easier and harder now. There are so many platforms and opportunities for young creators, but with that comes even more competition and scrutiny. The internet can be a harsh place, and the pressure to constantly produce content can be overwhelming.
Editor: That’s an important point. What strategies do you use to maintain your mental health while navigating this landscape?
Lisa: I prioritize taking breaks and setting boundaries. It’s easy to get sucked into the cycle of content creation, but stepping back and living in the moment is essential for my well-being. Surrounding myself with supportive friends and family is also crucial.
Editor: It sounds like you’ve developed a healthy approach to balance. As we wrap up, what do you hope to convey to other young creators aspiring to find their voice online?
Lisa: I hope they understand that their journey is unique and that it’s okay to be authentic. Embrace your creativity, be kind to yourself, and don’t let negativity hold you back. The internet can be a powerful tool for connection and expression!
Editor: Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your insights and experiences with us today. Your journey is a testament to resilience and creativity, and I’m sure many will find inspiration in your story.
