On the 12th, an article titled ’Model Kim Na-jung was requested to be investigated by the police on charges of violating the <a href="https://time.news/sik-ks-side-returned-to-drug-use-because-of-delirium-after-surgery/" title="Sik-K’s side “Returned to drug use? “Because of delirium after surgery””>Narcotics Control Act‘ was posted on an online community.
Mr. A, who wrote the article, said, “Through the Kookmin Newspaper, I requested the Mapo Police Station in Seoul to investigate Kim Na-jeong’s ‘suspicion of violating the Narcotics Control Act (suspicion of drug use and transportation),'” and left the details of the civil complaint filed by the Kookmin Newspaper.
Afterwards, Kim Na-jeong said, “Last night, the 11 o’clock flight from Manila to Incheon was delayed to 12:05, and late in the evening, everyone at the airport, including airport staff, passengers, and immigration, filmed me and tried to avoid a drug situation like the Truman Show. “I abandoned everything and came back without getting on a plane. If I get on that plane, I’ll die,” he said, raising questions by posting gibberish.
At the same time, Kim Na-jeong left a message raising suspicions about drug use, saying, “I am confessing to having taken drugs in the Philippines,” and “I feel like I am going to die in some way due to my delusions of grandeur, so I can’t get on a plane.”
Regarding this situation, netizen A said, “As the Philippines is so strict that drug crimes are punished with up to life imprisonment, it is believed that Kim Na-jeong was in a situation where she had no choice but to urgently request help through the embassy, and at the end, ‘ ”Judging by the fact that he said ’Tayo’, it is presumed that he has arrived safely in Korea now,” he wrote. “I strongly urge you to punish them,” he said.
Meanwhile, she made her name known by winning the men’s magazine ’Miss Maxim’ contest in 2019. He also worked as an announcer and weathercaster, and appeared on Wave’s original entertainment show ‘Ideology Verification Zone: The Community’ earlier this year.

How do public figures’ drug-related controversies influence societal attitudes towards addiction and recovery?
Interview between Time.news Editor and Drug Policy Expert
Time.news Editor (TNE): Good day, and thank you for joining us today. With the recent news about model Kim Na-jung facing allegations of violating the Narcotics Control Act, there’s been a lot of public discourse on the implications of drug use in society. To help us navigate this sensitive topic, we have Dr. Sarah Lee, an expert in drug policy and social behavior. Welcome, Dr. Lee!
Dr. Sarah Lee (DSL): Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to discuss such an important issue.
TNE: Let’s dive right in. The allegations against Kim Na-jung have sparked widespread discussions. In your opinion, how do high-profile cases like this affect public perceptions of drug use and the legal system surrounding it?
DSL: High-profile cases can significantly influence public perceptions, often leading to polarized opinions. On one hand, they can amplify awareness about drug-related issues, prompting discussions about mental health and the need for support rather than just punishment. On the other hand, they can also lead to sensationalism, looming stigma, and paranoia around drug use and the individuals involved.
TNE: That’s an interesting point. The article mentioned that a local newspaper requested the police to investigate Kim. What are the typical processes that follow such allegations in South Korea regarding narcotics?
DSL: Once a formal request is made, such as in this case with the Mapo Police Station, it typically initiates a preliminary investigation. Authorities will assess the validity of the allegations and may gather evidence, which could include witness statements, surveillance footage, or drug tests. Depending on the findings, the case could either be dismissed or progress to more serious charges.
TNE: Certainly complex. Given the stigma associated with drug use, how do you think this case may impact Kim’s career and those of other public figures in similar situations?
DSL: The impact can be quite devastating. For many public figures, especially in the entertainment industry, a single incident can lead to severe repercussions professionally, including loss of endorsements, public backlash, and social ostracization. This could also lead to a chilling effect where individuals in similar positions might avoid seeking help for substance abuse due to fear of public scrutiny.
TNE: Very true. Moving beyond individual cases, what steps do you think society should take to reform drug policies and better support individuals struggling with addiction?
DSL: Comprehensive drug policy reform is essential. This includes shifting from punitive measures to more rehabilitative approaches. Implementing educational programs, increasing access to mental health resources, and promoting healthy dialogues around addiction can create a supportive environment. Additionally, decriminalizing certain substances and focusing on harm reduction strategies can significantly have positive outcomes.
TNE: Those are proactive approaches. Lastly, what can we, as a society, learn from situations like Kim Na-jung’s?
DSL: We can learn the importance of compassion and understanding. Instead of immediately jumping to judgment, we should aim to educate ourselves about the complexities of addiction and mental health. This incident can serve as a reminder of the fragility of human lives and the necessity of encouraging dialogue about addiction, mental health, and the need for systemic changes to effectively address these issues.
TNE: Thank you, Dr. Lee, for your valuable insights today. It’s imperative to approach such challenging topics with both awareness and empathy. We’ll continue to follow this story and hope for a constructive resolution.
DSL: Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts. It’s a vital conversation to have, and I appreciate you bringing it to the forefront.
TNE: Thank you to our readers for tuning in. Stay informed, and take care.
