Yulhee (27, Kim Yulhee), a member of the group ‘Laboum’, filed a custody suit against her ex-husband, FT Island member Choi Minhwan (32), and erased all traces of Choi Minhwan.
On the 16th, all traces of Minhwan Choi disappeared from Yulhee’s YouTube channel ‘Yulhee’s House’. The transcript containing Choi Min-hwan’s private life also disappeared.
Yulhee announced her romantic relationship with Choi Minhwan in 2017. They had a son in May of the following year and got married in October of the same year.
They gave birth to twin daughters in February 2020 and appeared on TV together, but announced their divorce in December last year. It was decided that the father, Minhwan Choi, would have custody of the three children.
Yulhee claimed on her YouTube channel on the 24th of last month that Minhwan Choi sexually harassed her by going to entertainment establishments during her marriage and putting money on her chest in front of her family. At the end of the video, a transcript of Choi Min-hwan recorded several times in July and August 2022 was released. The transcript contains audio believed to be Choi Min-hwan exchanging a conversation with another man that is suspected to be related to prostitution.
Choi Min-hwan was embroiled in controversy over his private life due to Yul-hee’s revelations and suspended his activities. As the controversy arose, on the 25th of last month, the agency FNC Entertainment announced, “After in-depth discussions on FT Island’s future activities, we have decided to temporarily continue activities as a two-member system (Lee Hong-ki and Lee Jae-jin).”
“It is difficult for us to know in detail about the personal life related to marital issues, but Choi Min-hwan feels responsible for disappointing the public and viewers. I would like to stop all media activities, including broadcasts where I appear with my children. “We apologize for causing inconvenience and concern to many people.” Gangnam Police Station in Seoul is investigating Choi Min-hwan and agent A on charges including the Prostitution Punishment Act.
On the 4th, Yulhee filed a request for adjustment of custody change and alimony/property division claims against Choi Minhwan at the Seoul Family Court.
Yulhee said on her YouTube channel on the 10th, “There were too many speculations and criticisms,” but “I don’t regret the divorce.” Yulhee said she had a lot of worries after the divorce. He said, “I didn’t abandon my children, but I thought about it like that. I thought that I could have overlooked it (I could have avoided divorce), but maybe I was narrow-minded, and if I wanted to live as a mother of my children, I should have accepted it.” However, she said, “I didn’t want to be a mother who was dishonest to my children.”
In addition, Yulhee said, “There are many people who have the same pain and wounds as me. I reflected and gained courage as I looked back. I also felt clear about the path I had to follow as a mother. I felt that I had to move forward without wavering toward my goal,
Yulhee recently signed an exclusive contract with a new entertainment agency, High Beam Studio, and announced the resumption of activities.

What are the common factors courts consider in celebrity custody battles?
Time.news Interview: The Complexities of Celebrity Custody Battles
Interviewer (Editor of Time.news): Good afternoon, and welcome to Time.news. Today, we’re exploring a very sensitive topic that has recently caught the public’s attention: the custody battle between Yulhee, a member of the K-pop group Laboum, and her ex-husband, Choi Minhwan of FT Island. To help us make sense of the complexities involved in such high-profile cases, we have Dr. Hana Kim, a family law expert and child psychologist. Thank you for joining us, Dr. Kim.
Dr. Hana Kim: Thank you for having me. It’s vital to discuss issues like these, especially when they involve children and public figures.
Editor: Absolutely. The recent revelations made by Yulhee on her YouTube channel raised eyebrows, especially her claims against Choi Minhwan regarding his behavior during their marriage. What’s your take on how public allegations can affect custody battles?
Dr. Kim: Public allegations can deeply influence custody decisions. In Yulhee’s case, her claims about emotional and potential sexual harassment complicate the narrative. Courts tend to evaluate the safety and well-being of children first, so any evidence suggesting a parent may be harmful or neglectful can sway decisions significantly.
Editor: Yulhee’s actions, such as removing Choi Minhwan from her social media and filing for custody change, signal a strong response to the situation. How important is a parent’s emotional state in custody matters?
Dr. Kim: A parent’s emotional stability is crucial. Yulhee’s public statements indicate she has reflected on her decisions and is seeking to create a better environment for her children. Courts often look at the mental and emotional well-being of both parents, as a positive environment is essential for children’s development.
Editor: Choi Minhwan’s agency has announced the temporary suspension of his activities following the allegations. How do you think this impacts his relationship with his children and the custody case?
Dr. Kim: This is a double-edged sword. On one hand, stepping back from the public eye could indicate that he is taking responsibility, which might work in his favor. On the other hand, as a public figure, his actions and the surrounding controversy can have lasting effects on how children perceive parental roles. In custody cases, stability is key, and temporary suspensions like these can be seen as both a sign of accountability and a loss of parental presence.
Editor: Yulhee mentioned feelings of regret and contemplation about being a mother during this turbulent time. How do such emotions weave into the decision-making process around custody?
Dr. Kim: Emotions certainly play a significant role. It’s common for parents going through divorce to experience regret or self-doubt. Yulhee’s reflections show that she is seeking clarity and growth, which is positive. Courts often take into account a parent’s willingness to learn and grow when deciding on custody. Emotional maturity can signal to the court that a parent is ready to provide a supportive environment for their children.
Editor: Given this situation, what advice would you give to other parents navigating similar custody battles, especially in the public eye?
Dr. Kim: It’s essential to keep the focus on the children’s well-being during these conflicts. Parents should strive to minimize public drama, as children are profoundly affected by their parents’ decisions and public perceptions. Engaging in therapy or counseling can help both parents process their emotions and come to a more amicable resolution, ultimately prioritizing their children’s stability and well-being.
Editor: Wise words, Dr. Kim. The pressures of public life amplify these already complex personal situations. Thank you for shedding light on the intricacies of custody battles.
Dr. Kim: Thank you for having me. It’s crucial to continue these conversations to better understand the intersection between public life and private challenges.
Editor: And thank you to our audience for tuning in. Stay informed with Time.news as we continue to cover stories that impact our lives and society at large.
