North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum nominated for Secretary of the Interior
According to The Hill, an American political media outlet, on the 15th (local time), President-elect Trump issued a statement saying, “I am pleased to announce that Levitt will serve as the White House press spokesperson.”
“Levitt did an incredible job as a press spokesperson for the campaign. “He is smart, strong and has proven to be a very effective communicator,” he said. “I am confident he will do an outstanding job and help convey our message of ‘Make America Great Again’ to the nation.”
Levitt served as a spokesperson for Trump’s presidential campaign. According to Trump’s advisors, Levitt is said to have gained President-elect Trump’s trust by defending him in news interviews and other events and showing an attitude of not giving in to any situation.
Levitt served as Trump’s deputy press secretary during the latter part of Trump’s first term. He worked as the communications director for Rep. Ellis Stuffanik, a hard-liner who was a ‘pro-Trump’, when Trump was defeated by President Joe Biden in 2020. Stupanik was recently appointed as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Levitt, 27 years old, became the youngest White House spokesperson ever. The youngest White House spokesperson was Ron Ziegler, who became spokesman at the age of 29 during the Richard Nixon administration in 1969.

Interview Transcript: Time.news Editor Interviews Political Expert on North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum’s Nomination as Secretary of the Interior
Time.news Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we have an expert on American politics with us to discuss the recent nomination of North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum for the position of Secretary of the Interior by President-elect Donald Trump. Thank you for joining us!
Expert: Thank you for having me! It’s an exciting time in politics, and this nomination has certainly generated a lot of interest.
Editor: Absolutely! Let’s dive right in. Burgum’s nomination comes at a time when conservation and energy policies are hotly debated. What would you say are the key challenges he’ll face in this role?
Expert: Great question! As Secretary of the Interior, Burgum will have to navigate a complex landscape. The two main challenges will likely be balancing environmental preservation with energy development—especially given the federal government’s role in managing public lands. Climate change initiatives are at the forefront, but so are the desires of states like North Dakota that rely heavily on oil and gas.
Editor: Right, and considering his background as a businessman and politician, how do you think Burgum’s leadership style will influence his ability to address these challenges?
Expert: Burgum has a unique blend of experience that could serve him well. As a former tech entrepreneur, he might bring a fresh, innovative approach to the Department of the Interior. Moreover, his ties to local interests could help him mediate between various stakeholders, from indigenous groups to energy companies. However, he’ll need to balance that with the expectations from the administration regarding federal commitments to climate policy.
Editor: Speaking of expectations, we also saw the nomination of Caroline Levitt as White House spokeswoman around the same time. How significant is the alignment of these appointments in the context of the administration’s messaging?
Expert: The timing is interesting! Levitt’s appointment heralds an administration that is focusing on strong, assertive messaging. By reinforcing the narrative of “Make America Great Again,” especially with younger figures like Levitt—she’s just 27—Trump seems to be signaling a new generation of leadership. Burgum’s nomination complements this ethos by potentially streamlining the administration’s approach to tackling both energy and environmental issues under a unified message.
Editor: That’s a great point. Given that Burgum is not just a political figure but a businessman with tech expertise, do you think he could influence policies related to modernizing federal agencies?
Expert: Definitely. His experience in the tech sector could be invaluable. We’re seeing a push for innovation in government operations, from streamlining processes to enhancing transparency through technology. If he can implement these changes within the Department of the Interior, it could lead to more efficient management of resources and improved public access to information.
Editor: Fascinating insights! Lastly, many people are curious about how Burgum’s nomination might shift the political landscape in North Dakota. What’s your take on that?
Expert: His appointment could potentially reshape North Dakota’s political scene quite a bit. While he has been a prominent figure, serving as Secretary could open the door for someone new to step in. His policies and governance style will likely be closely watched, as any impacts on local energy policies and governance could spark discussions about infrastructure and sustainability, not only in North Dakota but nationally.
Editor: Thank you for your insights! It’s clear that Doug Burgum’s nomination carries significant implications for the Department of the Interior and beyond. We appreciate your time and expertise on this matter!
Expert: Thank you for having me! It’s going to be an interesting few years ahead.
