The ‘Chess Olympiad 2022’ competition of the International Chess Federation is to be held in Chennai, India for the first time.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has issued a press release in this regard: India has won the bid to host the International Chess Federation (UIEU) Chess Olympiad 2022 International Chess Tournament in Chennai.

After the UIU announced that it would withdraw from the Chess Olympiad 2022 competition due to the ongoing Bo situation, many countries tried to take advantage of this opportunity.

In this context, the event was made possible by the zealous efforts of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in collaboration with all the officials of the Government of Tamil Nadu and the All India Chess Federation (AIEU) Committee. Within 10 days of the announcement of the International Chess Federation, the Government of Tamil Nadu gave all approvals within hours of the All India Chess Federation approaching the first office with a request for an auction.

India has not hosted a single match in the previous 43 Chess Olympiad Internationals organized by the International Chess Federation since 1927. The Government of Tamil Nadu is very happy to win the bid for the 44th International Chess Federation Chess Olympiad 2022. About 2,000 competitors from 200 countries will take part in the competition.

Also, as the tournament will be held in India, many teams will have the opportunity to participate in the Indian tournament.

The Government of Tamil Nadu is promoting chess tournaments. Due to these promotions, Tamil Nadu has got 73 Grand Masts like Pragnananda, Kukesh, Adiban, Srinath and Viswanathan Anand out of 73 Grand Masts in India. It is expected that more Grand Masts will come in the near future.

The International Chess Federation’s Chess Olympiad 2022 will be held in Chennai from July 26 to August 8 this year.
