In April of this year, the police were notified of the discovery of a freezer on the seabed. It was found near a fish farming facility off Innhavet in Hamarøy municipality.
The police have previously stated that they view the finding as suspicious.
The freezer was found in the same municipality where the police have an ongoing investigation concerning the disappearance of Stian Hole.
– As long as the police have not found anyone who can provide a plausible explanation, we need to know for sure what it contains, says police attorney Torje Imøy in a press release.
– Following up on all leads
However, the investigation has not clarified why the freezer is there or what it contains.
– There can be many reasons why a freezer ends up on the seabed, says Imøy.

According to him, the police have tried to find answers regarding who owns the freezer, why it is there, and how it got there, but without any answers.
Therefore, they will now raise the freezer, which is located about 250 meters deep. They plan to do this on Thursday with a hired company that has the necessary equipment.
– It is important for the justice sentiment of society and especially for the relatives to have confidence that the police are following up on all leads that may lead to the case being resolved and that the relatives receive answers, says Imøy.
Attempted Sealing
NRK has previously reported that it was in connection with a job for the fish farming company Cermaq that a company discovered the freezer in April. They found it using a so-called <span class="note" data-content="

There are underwater recordings, and the images reportedly show that the box has been attempted to be sealed.
– It is packed and wrapped with a nylon rope, says Imøy.
– What do you know about the contents?
– We have no information about what is in this freezer.
The mysterious freezer is said to lie underneath the fish farming facility outside Innhavet in Hamarøy.
– This freezer has been known for quite some time now. What is the reason you have only now decided to raise it?
– There was an investigation to determine whether it would be possible to identify an owner. It is a fact that over the years a lot of garbage has been thrown into the sea. We have taken this into consideration, but we have also not found anyone who could be the owner.

What are the implications of the freezer’s discovery for the ongoing investigation into Stian Hole’s disappearance?
Interview Between Time.news Editor and Police Attorney Torje Imøy
Time.news Editor: Good day, Torje. Thank you for joining us to discuss the recent discovery of a freezer on the seabed near Hamarøy municipality. It’s a gripping story. Can you start by sharing what led to this freezer’s discovery?
Torje Imøy: Thank you for having me. The freezer was discovered in April this year, thanks to a tip-off to the police regarding its suspicious presence. It was located near a fish farming facility in Innhavet. Given the context, we took immediate action to assess its significance, especially since we are currently investigating the disappearance of Stian Hole in the same area.
Time.news Editor: That’s certainly troubling, especially in light of the ongoing investigation. The police have labeled the situation as suspicious. What are your main concerns regarding the freezer?
Torje Imøy: Our primary concern is understanding what the freezer contains and why it ended up on the seabed. Until we can review its contents, various scenarios remain open. It could relate to criminal activity, but there could also be entirely innocent explanations. We believe clarity is vital, not only for our investigation but also for the public and the families affected.
Time.news Editor: I can see how that would weigh heavily on the community. You mentioned various reasons for the freezer being there—can you elaborate on that?
Torje Imøy: Certainly. We’re considering numerous possibilities. For instance, it might have been lost during transportation or improperly disposed of. However, given the circumstances surrounding Stian Hole’s disappearance, we are obligated to consider more serious implications. Until we can retrieve and examine the freezer, it’s challenging to draw any definitive conclusions.
Time.news Editor: That makes sense. What steps are the police taking to uncover the truth about this freezer?
Torje Imøy: We’re following up on all leads with thorough investigation efforts. We’ve identified that the freezer is approximately 250 meters deep, and we’ve engaged a specialized company with the necessary equipment for retrieval. We plan to bring it to the surface soon, which we believe is crucial for the integrity of our investigation.
Time.news Editor: That sounds like a significant operation. How important is it for the police to convey a sense of trust to the public concerning your investigative processes?
Torje Imøy: It is paramount. The justice sentiment within society hinges on the belief that law enforcement is proactive and diligent in addressing potential crimes. We recognize that the relatives of missing persons, like Stian’s family, need assurance that everything is being done to find answers. It’s about restoring trust and providing closure when possible.
Time.news Editor: Thank you for sharing these insights, Torje. With such an intricate and sensitive situation, it seems a balance between thorough investigation and public assurance is essential.
Torje Imøy: Absolutely, and thank you for bringing attention to this important issue. We will continue our efforts and remain committed to transparency throughout the process.
Time.news Editor: We look forward to updates on the situation. Thank you once again for your time, Torje.
Torje Imøy: Thank you for having me.
