Interview between Time.news Editor and Gabriele Salvatores, Award-Winning Director of “Naples – New York”
Time.news Editor (T.N.E): Welcome, Gabriele! It’s a pleasure to have you with us today. Your new film, “Naples – New York,” has sparked a lot of excitement. Can you share what this film is about and what audiences can expect?
Gabriele Salvatores (G.S): Thank you for having me! “Naples – New York” is a tale woven around the connections and contrasts between two vibrant cities. It’s about characters who navigate their dreams and challenges while dealing with their roots and aspirations. Audiences can expect a mix of drama and heartfelt moments filled with rich cultural elements from both places.
T.N.E: It’s intriguing how you’re blending these two iconic cities. How did the idea of combining Naples and New York come about?
G.S: The idea came from my fascination with how different cultures intersect and affect each other. Naples and New York both have a deep sense of identity and history, yet they’re worlds apart in many ways. This film explores those intersections through the lives of our characters, creating a tapestry that honors both cities.
T.N.E: That’s beautifully said. You’ve directed several critically acclaimed films. How does “Naples – New York” compare to your previous works in terms of themes and storytelling?
G.S: Every film is a new journey for me, but this one delves deeper into the themes of belonging and transformation. While previous films have touched on identity, this one feels particularly personal. It reflects my own experiences with migration and connection, making it both relatable and universal.
T.N.E: Speaking of personal experiences, you often draw inspiration from your surroundings. How did the Romagna Riviera play a role in the film’s development and production?
G.S: The Romagna Riviera is not only breathtakingly beautiful but also a place that evokes a sense of nostalgia and warmth. Filming there added a layer of authenticity to our scenes, enhancing the emotional quality of the story. The setting mirrors the feelings of the characters, creating a strong visual and emotional backdrop.
T.N.E: Your film features an impressive cast as well. How did you select the actors for their roles, and what qualities did you look for in them?
G.S: Casting is a critical part of storytelling. I looked for actors who could embody the spirit of their characters—people who could bring their own experiences to the roles. The chemistry among the cast members was also essential, as it plays a significant role in making the story resonate with the audience.
T.N.E: There are three unmissable events planned around the film’s release. Could you share what they entail and why they’re significant?
G.S: Absolutely! We have events that blend film screenings with discussions, allowing audiences to engage directly with the themes of the movie. We’ll feature guest speakers, live music performances, and Q&A sessions that foster dialogue about cultural identity and the connections we make across borders. These events are designed to celebrate community through cinema.
T.N.E: That sounds fantastic! As a director, what are you hoping audiences take away from “Naples – New York”?
G.S: My hope is that audiences feel a sense of connection—whether it’s to their own stories or to the experiences of others. I want them to reflect on the ties that bind us all, regardless of where we come from. There’s beauty in our shared humanity, and that’s what I aim to express through this film.
T.N.E: Thank you, Gabriele. Your passion for storytelling is truly inspiring. We can’t wait to see “Naples – New York” and experience the magic you’ve created.
G.S: Thank you! I appreciate your support, and I hope everyone enjoys the film as much as we enjoyed making it.
