Farewell to William Hurt, the star of the Eighties
William Hurt is dead, the great American artist, his son announced it through a note in which he wrote that he died peacefully in his family, of natural causes. The actor, a well-known face of the eighties died a week before his birthday: the March 20 would have turned 72 years old. In the past he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The big screen debut took place with a starring role in Ken Russel’s film, States of hallucinationreleased in 1980. The work was memorable and consecrated him among the stars of cinema. The following year, two other very important directors hired him: Peter Yates for the film An uncomfortable witnesse Lawrence Kasdan per Warm shiver.
Academy Award for Kiss of the Spider Woman in 1986, had again been nominated for the statuette in 1987 for Sons of a lesser god by Randa Haines, in 1988 for Inside the news by James L. Brooks and in 2006 for A History of violence by David Cronenberg. He had also been nominated for a Tony Award in 1985 for Hurlyburly and twice Emmys in 2009 for the series Damages and in 2011 for the TV film Too Big to Fail – The Collapse of the Giants.
