Ad targeting: Meta accused of covering up the true impact of Apple’s restrictions

by time news

Did Meta (ex-Facebook) “lie” to investors by not revealing the real impact on its revenues of the new restrictions imposed by Apple on advertising targeting? This is according to an American pension fund, which has even launched a class action in the United States against the social networking giant.

The case concerns “App Tracking Transparency” (ATT), the new system put in place by Apple to collect the consent of its users in terms of advertising tracking. Launched exactly a year ago on all iPhones running iOS14 and beyond, this small “pop-up” window is displayed each time an application that does commercial “tracking” is downloaded. The user can then accept, or refuse, to share their data (browsing history, etc.) with this same application.
