On the 21st, LG U+ appointed Hong Beom-sik, head of LG’s management strategy division, as the new CEO and conducted regular executive personnel reshuffles for 2025, promoting and selecting 9 executives.
The new CEO Hong Beom-sik is known to be an expert in the IT field, including communications and media. In particular, he is said to be a strategist who has successfully implemented various projects, including establishing business vision and strategies. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California (USC) and a master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University, he joined Bain & Company, a global consulting firm, in 2011. He served as CEO of the Asia-Pacific region’s information and communications and technology division, and served as global director and CEO of Bain & Company Korea.
He joined LG in 2019 and served as head of the LG Management Strategy Department. He identified growth engines at the group level and promoted active mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and served as a control tower for future business strategies and oversaw the group’s management strategy in reorganizing its business structure. From 2022, he also participated in major decision-making processes as a non-executive director of LG U+ and LG Hello Vision.
In particular, LG U+ is at a point where it must simultaneously strengthen the competitiveness of its main business and discover new businesses for future growth. Therefore, it is expected that there will be rapid and rapid management communication and various strategic decision-making processes. In this situation, the new CEO Hong, who has overseen the group’s management strategy, is evaluated as the right person to lead LG U+ to a new leap forward.
An LG U+ official said, “LG U+ is strengthening the essential competitiveness of its existing telecommunications business while accelerating the expansion of new businesses through artificial intelligence (AI)-based B2C and B2B business development,” adding, “CEO Hong Beom-sik is at the center of this change.” “We expect to lead LG U+ to a new leap forward.”
Along with the appointment of a new CEO, nine key executives were also promoted. Lee Jae-won, head of the MX and Digital Innovation Group, who has led the solid growth of the mobile business, and Lee Cheol-hoon, head of the Communication Center, who has overseen the public relations and external cooperation organizations, were promoted to vice presidents, respectively. In addition, seven people were newly appointed as managing directors, including Kim Tak-hyung in charge of mobile business, Park Seong-woo in charge of w-solution, Ahn Byeong-gyeong, home agent leader, business cooperation manager Lee Gyu-hwa, human resources manager Lee Won-hee, Data Science Lab head Cho Hyun-cheol, and Joo Eom-gae in charge of financial customers.
