Grandfather Ahn Baek-su, who lived in a collapsing mud house,
Move to a sturdy new home!
Last year, during the rainy season when the rain was pouring down, I met Ahn Baek-su (75), who lived alone in an old mud house without even a toilet or running water. My grandfather was living a precarious life day after day in his mud house, where all but one room had collapsed. The local community also wanted to help my grandfather, but the cost of building a new house was prohibitive, so it was a difficult situation. After appearing on , the grandfather was able to tear down his precarious mud house and move to a new, sturdy house that no longer had to worry about collapsing! Unlike a year ago, when I had to depend on my next door neighbor because there was no running water, I can now wash dishes and do laundry inside my house with peace of mind. Grandpa Ahn Baek-su said that his thoughts have changed more positively since he changed his bed to a more comfortable environment. Thanks to the love you sent, Grandpa Ahn Baek-soo was able to spend this winter warmly.
A disabled elderly couple who lived cold and uncomfortable in an old commercial building.
I can now live comfortably in a warm home.
Husband Baek Gyeong-gi (62), who cannot move his lower body due to polio, and wife Min Eun-kyung (56), who was born with a brain lesion, have lived for a long time in a narrow commercial building measuring about 10 pyeong. Because the air conditioning and heating did not work properly, we were exhausted from the heat in the summer and shivering from the cold in the winter. In addition, the bathroom was narrow and uncomfortable, so whenever Baek Gyeong-gi wanted to go to the bathroom, he would ride his wheelchair to the subway station and use the disabled bathroom. They were a couple who couldn’t even dream of moving due to their circumstances, but thanks to the donations you sent after the broadcast, they were able to find a new home. Now I can move around the house comfortably in a wheelchair, and there is enough space to even place an electric bed. Grandpa Baek Gyeong-gi no longer has to use public restrooms in the far away subway. They say it’s best to have a bathroom in your home that you can use comfortably. Grandmother Min Eun-kyung, whose wish was to live in a house with sunlight streaming in through the windows, has been able to make her wish come true thanks to your love.
The ‘love’ you sent has become ‘hope’ for our neighbors in need.
Thanks to the warm hands you have extended, the lives of our neighbors have changed, and we have been able to regain hope in the midst of despair. Please share a little attention and love with your neighbors who are shedding tears in this dark reality where they cannot see the future. When our little love and sincerity come together, we can create the miracle of sharing. In the future too We will strive to create more ‘miracles of sharing’ with the love you have given us.

What are some effective ways to sustain community support for vulnerable individuals after an initial intervention?
Time.news Interview: Transforming Lives Through Community Support
Editor: Good morning, everyone! Today, we have a special guest in the studio: Park Yu-mi, an expert on social welfare and community programs who has been closely involved with the EBS show “Nanum 0700.” Welcome, Park Yu-mi!
Park Yu-mi: Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here and share insights on such important topics.
Editor: Let’s jump right in. The recent episode titled “Sharing 0700 – The Hope You Found” highlighted two remarkable stories of people whose lives were transformed through community support. Can you tell us what inspired the creators to showcase these stories?
Park Yu-mi: Absolutely! The aim of “Nanum 0700″ is to bring attention to individuals who are often overlooked in society. The stories of Grandfather Ahn Baek-su and the disabled couple, Baek Gyeong-gi and Min Eun-kyung, are perfect examples of how community engagement can lead to real change. They faced severe hardships, and we wanted to illustrate the power of collective action and how it can turn despair into hope.
Editor: That’s very powerful. Grandfather Ahn’s situation, living in a precarious mud house, must have been dire. How did the community come together to assist him?
Park Yu-mi: It was heartwarming to see the community rally around him. Although the costs of building a new home appeared prohibitive, the episode prompted viewers to contribute donations. The funds raised allowed him to tear down his collapsing house and establish a sturdy new home equipped with basic facilities like running water. It’s a testament to the impact viewers can have when they come together for a common cause.
Editor: Incredible! And then we have the story of Mr. Baek and Ms. Min, who were living under very challenging conditions as well. What kind of transformations did they experience thanks to the support they received?
Park Yu-mi: Their lives changed drastically. They lived in a cramped commercial building with inadequate heating and cooling. After the donations from the show, they were able to move into a comfortable home that allows Mr. Baek to navigate easily without his wheelchair being a burden. The new environment not only improves their physical comfort but significantly lifts their spirits, fostering a more positive outlook on life.
Editor: It’s fascinating how a change of environment can influence one’s mindset. What are some long-term impacts you believe these types of interventions can have on individuals in similar situations?
Park Yu-mi: The long-term impacts can be profound. Beyond the immediate improvement in living conditions, individuals gain a renewed sense of dignity and hope. These stories encourage others in the community to extend help, increasing social cohesion. It’s about creating a ripple effect—when one person’s life changes, it inspires others. It also highlights the importance of sustainable support networks that extend beyond just financial assistance.
Editor: Absolutely. It’s about building a community that cares. In your experience, what are some challenges these initiatives face in sustaining support for vulnerable populations?
Park Yu-mi: One key challenge is fluctuating public interest. Once the immediate needs are met, ongoing support can dwindle. Additionally, systemic issues like poverty and lack of access to healthcare often require long-term strategies beyond immediate rescue efforts. Thus, mobilizing volunteers and maintaining a consistent flow of donations can be difficult.
Editor: It’s a continuous battle, isn’t it? What do you think can be done to improve these efforts and ensure lasting support for those in need?
Park Yu-mi: Raising awareness is crucial. We need to share their stories widely, engage the public continually, and show them the direct impact of their support. Collaborating with local organizations can also help streamline efforts and maintain momentum. Community education initiatives that involve volunteers can foster deeper relationships and understanding of the issues faced by vulnerable groups.
Editor: Wise words, Park Yu-mi. Before we wrap up, what message do you have for viewers and potential supporters after watching episodes like “Sharing 0700”?
Park Yu-mi: I would say that everyone can play a part in creating change. Even small contributions can lead to substantial transformations in someone’s life. It’s about compassion, community, and the belief that together, we can overcome adversity. Let’s keep the momentum going!
Editor: Thank you so much, Park Yu-mi, for your valuable insights today. Together, let’s strive to make a difference, one episode and one story at a time!
Park Yu-mi: Thank you for the opportunity! It’s been a pleasure discussing such meaningful work.
Editor: And thank you to our audience for joining us! Stay tuned for more stories that inspire hope and action.
